You must be new to T&F. There is no DQ for going out of your lane in a straight races as long as you don't impede anyone - and she didn't.

Preach
How about slinging hurdles... is that legal?
I saw the same thing as the OP and believed the rule to be as you stated, but it seems like there has to be some limit. Could someone really start in lane 1 and finish in lane 8 without a DQ as long as they don't interfere in the 100m?

Yes

The NCAA rules specifically state that a runner must finish the race in their assigned lane or be DQed. I do not believe the USATF Rules specifically state this but it may be implied.
I thought the same thing as the original poster and looked back at the race a couple of times.
While she didn't impeded the runner to her right THIS time, what happens in the Olympic semi or final when the competition will be even faster?
well the runner to her right, Queen Harrison, missed making the team by 0.02 seconds. Queen only lost to brianna by .23 seconds, so they were separated by less than a step.
If Brianna stayed in her own lane that Queen Harrison could have run .02 seconds faster. Just seeing someone if your lane can have that impact on you, let alone having to move over to the right to avoid her.
It's BS and I'm shocked there wasn't a protest.
What he said^^^^^

The only BS on here is yours. Rollins was two steps ahead of Harrison by the time she stepped out of her lane. Rule 163.5 allows a runner on the straight to step out of their lane. There was no impeding at all here.
Read the rulebook and watch the race.
But by being that close to the line between hurdles was she hooking hurdles going over them?
Can't hook the hurdles in the 100H. They are all in a line.

BTW Queen Harrison is one fine babe.

Have you watched the race? Your answer is there.
Typically this board of naive "track fans" is completely without a clue.

Great point. I think if they protested they'd have had a decent chance to win.
Either way, it's stupid that Rollins wasn't DQ'd even without a protest. You should be required to stay in your lane. If you can't run in a straight line, you shouldn't be going to the olympics anyway.

That's not what the rules say. But thanks for your opinion !

I am pretty sure if you finish in the wrong lane you can be DQed whether you impede someone of not. In Rollins case, someone who have to protest, USATF is unlikely on their own to initiate a DQ of the USOT winner by almost 2 strides.
Brianna's body will make a grown man cry. She is cute in the face too.

You may be pretty sure but you'd also be wrong.
While not USATF rules, which don't address finishing in a lane you didn't start in, IAAF rules do not require you to either stay in your lane or finish in your lane and USATF for the most part mimic IAAF rules. USATF rules directly address stepping out of your lane as a non disqualifying event without impeding another runner.
If anyone is looking for an example of this we need to ALL THE WAY BACK!!!!!! to August of 2015 to the low key international meet commonly known as the IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.....very much an under the radar competition. In the 200m heats of the event, a little known sprinter named Veronica Campbell-Brown from the tiny non sprinter producing nation of Jamaica ran down the straight in the lane next to her assigned lane without impeding the runner in that lane and finished in that lane. No violation.

Not new to T&F. Maybe new to watching a straight lane hurdle race and caring at all. And since when is USATF consistent in enforcing the rules? YOU must be new if that's your expectation.
Thanks for trying to make me feel bad though. You didn't. A tread I started got included in the race recap and was significant enough to have its title changed when added to the yellow "On the Boards" box. I clearly wasn't alone in my thinking. But since you think you're better than me and you're on Letsrun touting that, you're probably used to being alone.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
