All Rupp needs to do is make the race fast, which he should do since he's lacking speed. This will drop old man EPO...er, Lagat, no matter how much doping he's been doing.

Lagat is not an honest person. Just look at how much he lied and hid the truth during his transition to becoming a US citizen. While the A sample positive was thrown out because of the negative B just think if that was one of many other runners (Ramzi, Dibaba, some random Russian) we would not be so kind and brush it aside.
People can tell when something is too good to be true. Going from a pretty good US collegiate who couldn't beat Adam Goucher to a world beater running 3:26 is too good to be true. Then to still be running insane times when you are an old man? Give me a break.
Everyone will run scared of Lagat, which plays into his hands because no American scrubs have the gonads to run hard from the gun.
Except maybe Rupp, but Lagat won't get sucked into a pace he can't handle again. He just wants to make the team and with a 51 close nobody can stop him. (Rather, there aren't three people who can stop him.)
Yep. Bernie in the top 3 regardless.
Is Lagat too good to be true? I suppose it could easily be so. He was another adult braces candidate right? Sometimes I just get I feeling everyone is dirty. But even the poster that said they like to go down to a high school track meet could be sad and cynical if they wanted because I've seen and known many high schoolers to use PEDs or grey area items.
What I always consider is the extrapolation to other livelihoods: is using cocaine as a banker fair play? What about adderrall for the college student? How about pick your drug for musicians, visual artists or writers?
Drugs or no drugs, Lagat's form is a thing of beauty and if he is on drugs, someone younger--with or without drugs--should be able to beat him right?

Wasn't the A sample found to be faulty because of its own deficiencies and not because the B sample showed no evidence of unexpected substance? In other words, wasn't the A sample found to be not a positive but a false positive?
How many of these false positives turned out dirty later
There was at least 2.Martial Saugy just happened to be there for Bernies recheck.
It's easy to close this type of race in a 53 when you've been on EPO and HGH for almost your entire professional running career.
why does it matter what or if he's been on? who hasn't?

Why is no one complaining about Lagat's Kenya origin but so much hate is poured on the 2 10k guys?
Double standards.
Or Sanya Richards-Ross Jamaican Origins for that matter. I don't recall that ever coming up. She came to the US in High School.

Point me to someone who would voluntarily sit out of the Olympics in their prime because their citizenship came through faster than expected, and I'll show you a liar.
Anyone got a link to the 5000m heats?

Above is one of many hating racists in this thread. If Lagat were white, you would all have been completely happy.
Remember that Lagat was held out of the 2003 World's by Kenya because of the positive A sample--later discredited. Then he would have been held out of the 2004 Olympics in his prime if he'd declared his U.S. citizenship that year. As it was, he was unable to compete in the 2005 World Championships because of the citizenship change. So, he missed 2003 and 2005 World's when he was healthy and either the best or nearly the best in the world, as it was, and even worse to miss one world's and an Olympics when you are in 3:27 shape.

If everyone around you appears to be a hateful racist, it is probably you.
Billy freaking Kincaid closed in 53 - I've no reason to think a 41 year old Lagat can't do the same.

What?! No. Lagat, he is our Kenyan . Those other two guys? Huh, please. They're just here for the freedom. Fvck those guys
Yeah. If you want freedom, join the military. Makes sense.
Lagat may be dirty, and that would suck. But we're watching a likeable man with a beautiful stride go toe-to-toe with father time, and it's awesome! I'd rather be an enamored fan now and heartbroken later than a cynic now and a crotchety know it all later.

Awesome post, agreed.

Well said.
