You heard it here 1st! Given Galen's current fitness (strength) and that he recognizes that he has to do something special in the 5K to determine his 10K-Marathon versus 5K-10K decision, he will set an AR in the 5K. It's hammer time, not tactical ... he knows he's in great shape w/nothing to lose.
Although I don't think he's going to get a AR, I do think he's going to take it out
Think of it like this, he's 95% he's going to do the 10k/Marathon double, and with the marathon training in his legs, it would be very hard to pop a fast last 800m to hang w/ guys like Heath/Lagat/Hill/True if it's tactical
Why not take it from the gun, time trial it, and make everyone hang on for dear life? Even if he doesn't get top 3, he most certainly entertains the crowd...
I think he runs 13:10-13:15, how many Americans have shown they are in that type of shape so far this year? Mead (13:04), True (13:12), Paul Chelimo, Shadrack Kipchirchir
Heath had a better year last year, Lagat, Lomong are passed their prime, Jenkins hasn't shown he's in his 13:07 form from last year
Regardless, we saw how the U.S. Army boys ran in 10k, the watch out for Paul Chelimo!!
