First off, I had a great time during day 1 at Hayward.
I arrived early and parked at a meter three blocks away ($12.00 for the day). I headed over to the entrance on Agate (across from the Jaqua student athlete building) where I encountered a group of Nike employees handing out promotional material for their new Internationalist line (think retro of some of their 80s-90s shoes).
The young man in the group did not seem able to answer many questions about the new shoes. I became completely blown away by his knuckleheadedness when he made a comment about there being "a real big meet over there" (points toward Hayward). "It's like a tryout meet."
I thought he was trying to be ironic but then he said, "If they do really well there, they get to go to the Olympics."
I was dumbfounded that someone working for the biggest running shoe company would be so ignorant about the meet he was working at. To make it worse in my mind was that this guy was the first face of Nike that fans encounter at Nike's biggest USA meet.
