Wheating was well short of the Olympic Trials time today but he was competitive and beat everyone except Centrowitz. He had the quote above and some others I liked.
If he gets in the Trials, he could be a factor as after Centro it is wide open.

Rooting for Wheating. 2008 was an awesome summer for track.
Also, is Wheating the Dayman?
"I was that little boy,
That little baby boy was me.
I once was a boy,
but now I am a man.
I fought The Nightman, lived as Dayman,
now I'm here to ask for your hand,
so if you want to marry men,
will you marry me?" -
whatever that approach is, it isn't working. give me a break. just part of the barrage of excuses and justification that will soon be following.

I was not expecting the second post on this thread to be an always sunny reference. Props to you good sir. -

Yeah seems to me he was a much better runner as a "boy" than as a man. -
Pro running is a different animal and I wonder what effect increased personal responsibility has on certain athlete's performances. While these guys have coaching, they lack the 24/7 supevision that comes with being a college athlete. No one person or set of teammates forcing them to get out and do those maintenance runs and workouts on their own. For many of us, additional free time often results in getting less done.

He ran in the heats of the 08 Olympics and had one really fast race in 2010. That's really about it. -
Matty boy looks like he wanted to cry in this video. He clearly seems frustrated, don't blame him. Good thing he is signed with Nike.

Wheating has got to pay the troll toll if he wants to get into that boys hole. I think he is out of the abusive relationship he used to be in. -

Oh, come on, he did a bit more than that. He had a bunch of fast races that year, and he did some cool stuff in college. But that was then; this is now. He hasn't been that guy in a long time.
You are right that not many of us would be loving/hating on him if he hadn't run so fast that one time. Without that, he'd just be another come-from-behind guy who was really, really fun to watch, especially at Hayward Field. They'd go nuts when he could still turn it on at the end and catch people. But with the 3:30 when he was just twenty-three, he seemed to promise so much more.
It's sobering to compare his career to Manzano's. Manzano's run as fast or faster, and has run fast far more consistently. He's made more teams. But nobody is agonizing about whether he's going to make the team. And nobody's calling him "one of the greatest middle-d guys" of his generation.
