She also ran that time with an extra barrier. Watch the meet. They had a barrier on track too early. So she should have got the time

Just read this on Facebook. This is horrible for Becky. Not sure who should draw our ire more...the ATL guys for botching the curves or USATF's Jill Greer for her flippant response to inquiries:
“I don’t have any knowledge of the cone situation and our HP staff is traveling to Juniors today.â€
Didn't something similar happen a few years ago with a meet in San Diego at Balboa Stadium? The same thing came up as the meet had cones on the inside versus a rail. Can anyone elaborate? I think it was the meet where they had a road race tied into it.
I disagree. Rules are rules and when they selectively enforce them is what gets everyone ticked off.
Where they screwed up was not letting her know much earlier.
I feel bad for her, but it was the right decision.
What truly baffles me is how many times does USATF get to screw over athletes, before they finally take a stand? This is beyond ridiculous. How many (COUNTLESS!) times have they f-ed up the very athletes they are supposed to be the organization for? From the debacle at the Marathon Trials in L.A. to the never-ending battle over uniform logos, to now, this.
And each time something like this happens, athletes turn to social media in an outcry. Maybe I'm naive, but without those very athletes, what purpose would USATF serve? How about these "outraged" athletes actually organizing and saying 'enough is enough' and stand up to USATF once and for all?
Nothing is going to change unless someone is willing to actually do something about it. I'm only an extremely small runner-fish in a very big pond, but the little I can, and have done, is to refuse to join such an inept, bundling organization as USATF. I personally refuse to support an outfit that consistently screws up and f*cks over the very athletes they're supposed to support.
This is so ridiculous and frustrating. I agree - demolish the whole USATF and start over from scratch.
They should absolutely let her in with that performance.
No cones should mean it should not count for record purposes.
But they can, and have always been, subjective about letting qualifiers in.
Didn't wejo once get in on appeal?
Many elites have been let in without officially getting the standard.
This is simply a judgement call.
They let conversions in for crying out loud.
They should let her in based on this race. Period.
The time should count. They allowed the USATF wSteeple champion to run inside the rail on the curve last year with no penalty. Why be sticklers for the rules all of a sudden.
Having cones instead of rail confers an advantage of 5m shorter distance run, which is the distance she covered in one second, so she essentially ran 9:53.6, or outside the Q. Adding her in on field size should be an option, though.
Until the Max Siegel cronyism era is over....there will be nothing but buffoonery and corruption for the USATF.
I have said this a million times.....the athletes have to organize and boycott USATF and form another new national organization.
Rails are required for certifiable times. Everybody knows that.
Its horseshit like this that made me let my USATF membership and annual contribution promise lapse. Its about developing, not disqualifying athletes you A holes.
I'll see you in Eugene in 2 weeks.
Expect abuse .
USATF is the most anti- track and field organization in the world. It's run by morons and people who have no idea how to 1) Treat their athletes or 2) Market their sport effectively.
You are the problem with our sport. Go find yourself a cross-fit gym and kindly go away.
At the very least, they should let her in because they didn't bother to inform her that her time wasn't a qualifier! She could have been chasing a time for weeks, and clearly would have been.
It's outrageous.

There's no difference, because cones were there, none were knocked over, and thus people ran the same way as if there'd been a railing. The ruling is there for a good purpose, but also consider she cleared an extra barrier which shouldn't have been there, and which more than made up for not having a railing.
Cones are ok for a world record indoors
I never had the conversation with the meet organizers that the article is referring to!
100% of fault lay with the meet director.
Rules are pretty simple to follow.
It depends on whether the track was measure for rail or cones. I was assuming it was measured for a rail, but it may have been for cones, in which case she ran the full 3000m.
Accept her time, let her run wrote:

Easier said...
Tried to administer some meets, love my volunteers, but sheesh...simplest stuff gets f'd up and I have to bite my tongue. So many dolts with ADD.
