My goal is to get faster at 5K, not interested in Marathon yet. I also want to get faster at mile as everyone who is fast at 5K has a good mile.
Male, 28, 170lb,
New runner on my 14th month.
Started from 0mpw and gradually built up to 65.
Easy pace 8 miles.
1 tempo of 4-6 miles
1 progressive long run
4x100m strides 3 times a week.
I add 5 miles a month to my weekly mileage with a 25% and 50% drop in mileage the 3rd and 4th weeks for recovery.
Do not feel tired on this mileage, never had any injury. I feel like my 5K time should be way faster for 65mpw. I can run way faster but not for a full 5K because I get out of breath. Am I missing interval sessions? Will my 5K time just keep dropping if I just keep doing what I'm doing? Just a matter of being patient? I'm thinking of keeping my mileage at 65 and increasing daily paces/workouts until I get down to sub17 for 5K THEN increase mileage again.
Here are my race results, I started at 23 minutes for 5K in June 2015.
The 18:51 PB was at the end of my first 60 mile week.
