High school record by nearly a second, one of the best times run by an American all year, and she's only 16!!! She is running 400h at olympic trials, and she could make the team as a junior in high school.

Ranks her 5th in the world this year, but 4th American. Within half a second of the 2nd ranked woman.
Just looked at her All Athletics profile. If her 200 limit is still 24.0, then her conversion from 200 to 400H is excellent - but it means her 400H time is maxed out. She needs to get her 200 time down, but she ran 24.00 indoor this year, so maybe it's more like 23.5. That would make sub-54 possible.

She ran 23.53 at union county championships in may
Ok, so 400H is at double 200 time + 7.5. That's not maxed out, but it's still a very good conversion. Didn't see the 54.5, but in theory sub-54 is possible. Not sure what her endurance is like.

McLaughlin's run took almost a second off the previous record of 55.20, held by fellow American Leslie Maxie since 1984, and was also an American U20 record, breaking Nicole Leach's previous mark of 55.63 which had stood since 2006.
This should get its own front page.
She ran an FAT split 50.9 on a weird "Swedish Relay" on Friday thefirst day of NBN. Insane.
She is a super talent. The thing is, her 440 hurdle pattern is a little sub-optimal when I have seen her run (at junior world champs for instance). At this stage it doesn't seem like she can hurdle alternative legs, leading to stuttering in second half of the race. Plenty of room for improvement last time I looked. But if I were her coach I'd have her concentrate on the flat 400 more. Less risk of injury. Can she make Rio in either event? Will be interesting to see...
Working on her alternative leg pattern apparently:

Can't find a video of the actual race however. Definitely one to watch.

Any hurdles coach worth their salt should be able to teach her how to hurdle on both legs. Then she needs to learn to manage their stride pattern.
She should focus on 400H if you ask me. She might end up mid-50 for 400 which makes her an Oly final, but if she works her hurdling out, it's enough speed to win Oly gold in the 400H.
Go 400! She'd have a shot on the relay then.
She also goes over the first two hurdles leading with her right leg, which adds about 6m onto the race.
All of these things you are saying are happening. Go watch her last year. MUCH better hurdler. She's 16, for GOD's sake. Relax and let her and her coach do their thing. His"salt" is pretty good.
50.9 relay and 54.46 400mH at 16! Enough said.

Amazing how little pub this is getting considering it is one of the greatest high school performances ever. It is way bigger than anything else that happened this weekend ‘that’s on the front page’. It is fairly easy to see the quality of the performance, but you also have to take into account that Sydney is an underclassmen racing high school only races where she is often running multiple events.
Didn't she nearly beat Shamier Little a few years ago at US JR nationals, but couldn't go to World Jr's because she was too young?
She no look like 16!

Yea.
That was 2 years ago and she was 14 at that time. She came off the 9th hurdle about even with Shamier, but stuttered and chopped hurdle 10, lost momentum and tied up. It looked like as she approached hurdle 10 she was trying to adjust her stride because she couldn't lead with her left leg. World class and even most NCAA athletes can use either leg. Some 400m hurdlers athletes purposely use their alternate leg and most can at least do it in a pinch. Watching the NBN video, it looks like she can now use both legs.
Straight to the pros.
