Haha, read the article. His wife is making fun of him, didn't take him seriously:
“Before, we would describe Ryan as a ‘dead man walking,’ " says Hall’s wife Sara Hall, a professional runner, who has taken to calling him Shrek due to his transformed physical appearance. “Now he has plenty of energy to help with projects around the house and play with the girls.â€
So before, he wasn't even able to help with projects in the house, like moving the fridge? Pathetic.
I was going to comment on your being so fast for a vegan, but in typical vegan fashion, you were already trumpeting away.
Don't get me wrong, I am proud of him for changing his life for the better.
He clearly looks more healthy (and more BUFF and RIPPED, as well.
Btw, 12 eggs per day sounds a lot but it's really just 6 eggs in the am and 6 eggs in the pm. Nothing crazy.
I am sure his cholesterol now if better than before, considering sat fat raises HDL (good cholesterol) and reduces triglycerides

So does high level endurance training bro. I'm sure those two numbers have remained relatively stable.
Too bad Hall didn't incorporate enough heavy lifting in his overall training to combat lowered testosterone due to too much running.
All these stories that keep coming out about how Ryan Hall was so weak he struggled to make dinner or play with his kids, all because of his 'elite' level training are really getting on my nerves.
This guy was clearly either training extremely badly or he had something medically wrong with him. There are hundreds of elite athletes that train hard, bring back Olympic medals and are fine.
Running does not do this to you when used correctly.
So what? I eat 20 or 30 bananas at a time.
As evidence by his new trend of eating 12 eggs a day, Ryan Hall seems all about the extremes. No place for moderation, balance, well rounded living in any facet of his life. So yeah, I'm starting to doubt that he actually ever trained in a smart way. He makes muscle milk pancakes for crying out loud.

Nobody runs extreme times off of moderate diet/exercise. I have a moderate diet and moderate running schedule... guess what? I run moderate times.

Seriously. What do you guys expect? That's what makes elites reach their level. They have to be a little crazy and hope their body holds up. I'd train the dumbest/craziest way possible if it got me to 59 and 2:04. Even if I had to retire after. Worth it for sure. Plus he's back jogging 50-70 miles a week, lifting, beautiful wife and kids. Nothing wrong with his life at all. Honestly don't see why anyone would have a problem with him. He gave it his best shot and it was better than most. I enjoyed watching his career. He was a delight to watch.
I don't know if Ryan Hall was correct or incorrect.

Ryan Hall trained at 7,000 ft. altitude in the town of…????????
…Oh yea.
That is just a coincidence.

He's acting like it's normal for elite athletes to be this broken. If he trained smart he'd run similar times and not damage his body, cut his career or possibly face long term health effects like Salazar.
I reckon he'd run faster off 70mpw, lifting and some track workouts than whatever he was doing at his peak. Elite times are mostly genes. You gotta help them in the right direction.
Do you really think if you feel weak all the time from the excessively poor training you are doing that you can somehow race well?
This is exactly what happens when a talented elite does not dope. End of discussion. No one of his era had as much talent as him, but he chose not to dope and this is what happens to a body that trains at elite levels without the dope.
Much respect to Ryan Hall. I will always consider you the best.
He's going to be in for a bad surprise next time he goes for his annual physical. That's roughly 10x the daily allowance of cholesterol and a shortcut to all kinds of cardiovascular diseases.
Sara also forgot to mention that he has a lot more energy for "other things." Saw her a few days ago and she seems very satisfied, with a slight glaze over her eyes that we all know too well. Or maybe not, it is letsrun.
What? Are you serious? It's normal for professional athletes in every sport to be broken with some sort of injury or burnout. Most of the time that's why they retire and we don't have a hundred 40 year olds like Meb and Lagat. Very rarely does any professional athlete retire unscathed and healthy, so you're wrong there.
70 mpw? Are you kidding about that? Have you ever heard of anyone in the history of the world who hit their marathon/half marathon potential off of 70 mpw? And not a hobby jogger, professional runners under 2:10. Unheard of. You're just making BS up now.
And nowhere once did I say you should feel weak all the time and you will run well. But I will repeat, there was nothing wrong with Halls training. What he did took him to the highest levels. His body and mind could just not do it anymore. For all we know it was as mental as it was physical. All I know is when you compare him to his peers he did very well. Ritz, Webb, Teg, Dobson, Fam, Solinsky etc.

Bernard Lagat runs 60mpw and he ran a 1:01 Half in NYC if I remember correctly. Then again, there was also this positive A sample years ago so you never know ...

Right but you don't think Bernard is worth 59 flat or faster when compared to his 1500? 61 is not equivalent. He knows it but he wasn't training for it specifically. He and his coach know he could have run substantially faster at the longer distances if trained to do so but he focused on the 1500/5k for as long as possible by the time he was 35+ they were just trying to keep him healthy without adding too much volume.

Ya, about that, you've apparently missed the last 30 years of nutrition research.
