I've been wondering this. I'm considering attempting some sort of stupid running feat, cheating my butt off to achieve it, and seeing where the chips fall. If you were gonna cheat to achieve some sort of super distance running related thing, what would you need to do to evade the Letsrun detectives?
Do it during school hours.
do it somewhere in Asia, a run across nepal or something

I have recently caught some people cheating at a marathon I work for. The interesting thing I have found is that people are starting to post some suspicious times in prior races so their athlinks profile may show a buildup to that level of fitness .
You would need to spend a few years of cheating to build your fake Athlinks profile and then pick the perfect race, such as Via was . I suggest against an organized race though . This Ultra distance thing looks like low hanging fruit. Just get an "independent " witness and enjoy the ride!

You have to get caught to get famous.
I would have never known about Robert, Mike, Kip, etc. if they didn't get called out for cheating.
Just thinking out loud, if you designed a ruse that you knew would fool hobby joggers, but be debunked almost immediately by serious runners, and you did it purposely to get caught by LRC, would that be the ultimate troll?
Keep it offline. Don't be findable by the 12 basement troll keyboard warriors that reside here.

Yes stay out of places like Ohio and Michigan. Also, do something low-stakes that doesn't get much attention
1. Set up a 100-mile ultramarathon, to be held entirely within your home.
2. Set up a model train which will run around your house, and attach a GPS.
3. Start the train at the official starting time of the race.
4. Stop the train every few hours for a "water and food break."
5. Stop the train permanently when it reaches the 100-mile mark.
6. Claim that you are the winner of the inaugural 100-mile ultramarathon completely contained within your home.
