What an incredible performance, Murphy just ran 3:36 to win the 1500m by a gaping 2 sec
How many championships have been faster?
America has a new star!!! With Centro hurt, I think Murphty might be able to win the 1500 at the US Trials. He should have gone all out the last 100 to get the standard (although I think he's committed to the 800).
Let the bidding war began. He's amazing!!!
Yorks took it hard. 2:53 at 1200. Murphy was about 5-6 meters down. IF you thought it was being cracked, you were wrong. He DESTROYED everyone.
336.38 for Murphy.
York 338.076
Wynner 338.35
Murphy said the goal was to stick with the leaders for 1200 and then go with 150 to go and that's what he did.
Wyne made sure the race was fast to start and Yorks took over. both were struggling on the back stretch and then Murphy closes the gap and flies by on the home stretch.
Textbook race strategy for Murphy
Murphy looked so smooth in this race. Fast and in control that last 150, almost Centro like.
Could he surprise us with a magical year like Centro had back in 2011? The sky's the limit for this kid!
Top 5 include 3 from the Buckeye state!
The U.S. Has been rolling in the 1500 ever since Webb hit the scene and Lagat switched over.
Lomong, Wheating, Manzano, Centro
Andrews looking good
Murphy stepping up?
And there is a depth of 3:34/3:35 guys like never before
Torrence had a 3:33 in there
There used to be 3 or 4 world standard getters in any given year.
I love it!

Thanks to that idiot Symmonds and his childish grandstanding, Clayton has some intl experience.
Good for him.
1:43.5 is a 3:31 level performance.
Brazier is amazing. How he pulled that out of the bag I do not know.
If you are Murphy, do you stay in the 1500?
I guess not. He did beat Berian in his last race and just smoked the field in the 1500!!
But the 800 at the Trials is going to be amazing if Brazier runs it.
One of the following would be left home - Symmonds, Beran, MUrphy and Brazier.
But I'd be tempted to do the 1500 if I was murphy and i'd be kicking myself fornot running hard to the line as he could have gotten the standard.Let's say Brazier's 143 made him want to switch event. Well Murphy would have to go get the standard in Europe next week which would mess up his preprations for the Trials which start in 3 weeks.
Or run in this Sunday in Portland, which he is entered in.

I just talked to Jonathan Gault and Brazier is going for the standard on Sunday. He could have easily gotten it tonight.

Is this a joke? Lomong has barely broken 1:50 in the last 4 races; Wheating got THROTTLED in the pre 8, and could only manage to dip under 3:40 in a weak field recently; Centro has not yet raced outdoors; Andrews has been nothing more than average outdoors this year. How do you surmise that these athletes are "looking good"? Did you really mean that, or were you being sarcastic?

I think he was just listing all of the athletes who have at some point been competitive in the 1500 since the Lagat and Webb years. The "looking good" only applied to Andrews.
Clayton's a cinch for the OT 1500m Finals, with a chance for top 3.

What standard does BRAZIER need to get?
Unless he gets the 1500 A standard in the next 2 weeks, he will be forced to run the 800 at the Trials. He is entered in the Portland 1500 Sunday but that would be his 3rd race in 5 days. How will he feel? Will the pace be fast enough? Remember they hit 2:53 - 2:54 at 1200 today and he missed the A time. That is smokin' thru 1200. Will there be a crowd of runners to deal with in Portland, all gunning for the standard, as opposed to being on the rail all the way and having to deal with basically 2 other guys today? In an interview a week ago with Dave Hunter he stated he'll be going with the 800 at the Trials. After today and if he hits the standard Sunday I can see him and his coach having a serious discussion.

Murphy v. Andrews is a very interesting matchup.

Three hard races in 5 days would be a good simulation of the qualifying rounds at the Olympics. If he is able to run the standard in the 1500 on Sunday in Portland then it will let him know that he can survive in that event. If not, then stick with the 800 where he has had success.
Any video of the race?
