I know many of you were disappointed with the Oslo DL Men's 5000m run today, but please understand that this was a very important race for the Ethiopian runners as this counts as the Olympic Trials for them. Well, at least Trials #1 (Stay tuned for Trails #2) .....ummm yep, that's right, more than 1 trials 😂).
In the mean time, I've included links of some good 5K races that might make you feel better, which are ALL also from Oslo! Enjoy! 😎
1. https://youtu.be/F4qpYRjK-So --- (Trials part 1 for ETH, lol)
2. https://youtu.be/W80K0xSTikQ --- (one of the fastest times in Oslo?)
3. https://youtu.be/0Gs0wRc9X28 --- (great battle between Merga, Lagat, and Bekele, fast one too!)

I hope the first 3 from today, Hagos-Muktar-Yomif, get selected. I feel bad for Dejen and Alamirew, but they have a good chance in the 10,000m.
ETH Men's 5000m Team:
1. Hagos Gebrehiwot
2. Muktar Edris
3. Yomif Kejelcha
10K Team:
1. Ibrahim Jeilan
2. Dejen Gebremeskel
3. Yenew Alamirew (or KB if he decides to run it, if not the younger Bekele) -

Where was Dejen? Wasn't he on the initial start list - but he didn't run? Anyone know why if this was the Trials he didn't run. -
Why the hell would Alamirew be a choice for the 10k? He hasn't even run one on the track before, let alone qualify for the standard.
Good 10k choices would be Tamirat Tola, Ibrahim Jeilan, and Leul Gebrselassie. Both Tola and Jeilan have run sub 27 this season while Gebrselassie ran 27:19 in May with an impressive negative split. -
No, he ran the race, Rojo. He was 6th. 4th Ethiopian.

5000 team is the right team, in order of can-they-outkick-Farah from most likely to least likely. Hagos woulda had him in '13 if Lagat hadn't got in his way.

Well I was very disappointed in how off form Kejelcha seems. I hope he didn't make a mistake focussing on the world indoors... -

Dejene sure was hard to find during the race as he was at the back of the pack most of the race, but he did serge to the front and appeared with about a lap to go, then faded again and seemed like he gave up the race to the other guys. I'm surprised you missed his name in the results though.
Also, someone asked about 10k trials for the Ethiopians - that'll be around the end of this month, June, in Hengelo, where both the men and women take part. -

Was interested in your comments so just watched the last few laps to see how it unfolded. Hagos got caught on inside should have been more confident -
At last they will surrender for Mo Farah
-
Genzebe Dibaba was expected to run in Eugene, Oslo and Stockholm but she is pulled out from all . What do u think.

Sounds like Galen Rupp and the marathon. -

Yes, a new Gebrselassie who's never lost to Farah/Rupp might the wild card needed to shake their best laid plans a little, possibly doing what Jeilan did in '11 and almost in '13. Everyone else has already lost to him big time at least once when it mattered and will come into the race shaped mentally by going up against a guy with 7 straight global titles. -

Is there a list of entrants so far?
Do top times of the year also come into play or is it solely on placing at the trials -
Nuts, I was pulling for Dejen Gebrekeskel. So it goes.

He actually had the fastest last lap in that race, according to official splits on the IAAF site. He blazed through the backstretch in sub 13, then had to hit the brakes around the bend and then speed up again. Bad tactics. -

All the big names will be there (this might even include KB). Those that run at Pre with faster times (Tola and Jeilan) will also be there and will need to get top 3 there if they want to get selected. So top times might not come into play for them if the winning time is slow and they don't get top 3 in Hengelo. -

in '13 Lagat ran extremely poorly tactically the last 800m. All Farah had to do was stay on the inside and run as hard as possible, Lagat went inside, outside, moved hard on the curves and just bumbled around like an idiot until he kicked hard out in lane 3, by then he had surged himself out while Farah just winded up to top speed.
