She seems perfect for the marathon
She seems perfect for the marathon
hoorah
great news. She should do very well.
With her road credential, she can manage the marathon.
Seems like a quick turnaround from the Olympics peak she will have had. A spring Marathon would have allowed for a better build-up, but I imagine that NY is paying well, so may as well strike while the iron is hot, right?
Eh its 2+ months. I think that its plenty of time.
But lets be honest this isn't about what gives her the best chance to compete. its about the $$$$
Guesses on what she is getting? $100k+?
A hotel room, metro card and a voucher for a free 6 inch at Subway is what I'm thinking.

It is "plenty of time" for an Olympic caliber athlete to complete a marathon, but it is not "plenty of time" to do a proper build-up and subsequent peak for a proper, all-out marathon effort.
Yes, as I said, it is all about the $$. She'll run under 2:32 at NY, but I can see her possibly getting under 2:20 elsewhere before the 2020 Olympics.
As much as I like Molly, it is still way too early to say anything like "under 2:20".
Here is an article about Huddle running NYC.
She is looking at more like 150-250k for her debut. Something similar to what Ryan Hall, Shalane Flanagan, Deena, and Meb were able to get from NYRR.

Good points. At her age( 32), I guess it is about the money, she has only so many marathons in her at this point. With her speed it would have been interesting to see her run a flat fast marathon out of the blocks. Maybe we will see that in the spring. She can bang out a few top quality marathons, maybe take a shot at the american record and finish off her career with a run in Tokyo.
It's plenty of time. She will be in peak 10k shape going into marathon specific training for the next 10+ weeks...how much more do you need if you are starting out in very good shape? Should work out well if she stays healthy.

This thread features praise of a female runner for her character and performances which is a welcome change!
Huddle does seem to stay remarkably above the fray of the sport's squabbles. Plus I think everyone who has ever raced really felt for her last summer.

What? What do you make them of Rupp running Amsterdam in---GASP--October?

Your thoughts on how much Rupp is getting to run Amsterdam? Why not, like Huddle, run a good old American marathon?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
