Hello,I recently searched for Mimoun training as I always thought his goal was to train hard everyday. Apparently I was wrong as those quotes put him with 35km-40km a day and three times a day.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_MimounMimoun later told a biographer, Pat Butcher, that he had been well-prepared for racing the Melbourne Olympics marathon. "I gorged myself on 40 km a day for two years, without telling a soul."[33] "He would train three times a day, running a daily total distance of 35 km. It was certainly not for the 10,000-meter race, even though he had told me that he would not contest the marathon,"
I thought those mega mileage and doubles/triples only came later in the running history (mainly Lydiard)?
Was he the first one to use that? Any one have more info on his training?
Also considering that he did 2:34:36.2 at 51, it seems that mega mileage did not ruin him.
Bonus: 9 min documentary of the race:
