A little over a week ago, Genzebe Dibaba was announced as the Pre Classic women's 5000 headliner.
Today,we discovered that she is no longer on the start list and thus almost certainly won't be racing. We reached out to Pre Classic press director Jeff Oliver for confirmation that Dibaba is out and he wrote, "I have not been notified of any drops in the W5K." That being said, someone at Pre has as she in the past was on the start list.
In the past at other DL events, when someone is pulled from the start list, they do not end up competing.
Dibaba hasn't competed since World Indoors on March 20th. She pulled out of a 10,000 in Dubai in April with a toe injury that was supposed to only keep her out for 2 weeks.

Also we asked Oliver to release to us the 10,000 start lists considering the race is in 3 days, but had no luck.
We imagine that they are waiting to see if Rupp is racing it or not.
It seems like it would be in the sport's best interest to release the field now so we can get excited for it and add Rupp in if he decides that he is a go. -

Pretty sure Ritz is running after he dropped out of the Marathon Trials he said he would try to make the team at 10000 also a couple of years ago he said he wanted to go sub 27, hopefully he kills to birds with 1 stone Friday. -
She may be cutting down on her races so she can be fresh for the WRs in June. The goals for her are two more WRs (mile and 1500) and gold. I don't think Diamond League is a priority for her this year.
We may have to settle for quality over quantity with Genzebe this season. -
It's official Dibaba is out of the 5k.
Here is what the meet organizers told us via email:
"Genzeba Dibaba, the world recordholder at 1500 Meters, has been forced to withdraw from Friday's Distance Night in Eugene 5k. The 25-year-old Ethiopian suffered a toe injury in training, which makes racing in spikes unwise. Dibaba, the Pre Classic meet recordholder at 14:19.76 from last year, was aiming for an even faster time at this year's meet."
Also Allyson Felix is out of the race due to an ankle injury.

Coach Bob Kersee told the AP though that her training is going well and she still will double at USAs and Rio.
"Things are going well and they have no concern about her being prepared by the (July 1-10) Olympic trials," Kersee said. "They just think (she should focus on) her training and physical therapy and maybe take a week to 10 days before she races." -
would it really that big of a deal for her to race in trainers for one 5000 if spikes bother her toe?
nike doesn't make a trainer she can knock out 3 fast miles in comfortably? -
13:55 in trainers seems feasible.

Well, that puts a damper on the meet. That's the two biggest marquee names aside from Shelly, and she's been out too, hopefully she will run, she says she will.
-
Her coach may be holding her out to stay in Europe and focus on those WRs. Maybe the toe thing is an excuse so the Nike people won't be upset. Whatever she decides to do I'm behind her. She's among the most thrilling athletes in the world today

Allyson's injury is a sprained ankle, which occurred in late April while weight lifting. Obviously, with the time off for the injury to heal there is a problem getting fitness back. She is not ready for Eugene, and may have to wait until Oslo at least to get a 400 or 200 DL event. She did very well in a couple of indoor 60s (could have made the US team for worlds) but has not been able to race since due to the ankle injury. They're trying to put up a brave front but this is not exactly positive for attempting the double in Rio. -
LRC Answer:

Two of the most talented, intelligent and beautiful women on the circuit.

i am always unsure what to think, if someone does not start anywhere all year and then just starts at the trials and olympia. screams doping without the need to do tests in competitions

Not really a LRC answer.
Not many people are daft enough to think someone like this is ever going to get busted, no matter how hilariously obvious it is. -
I think Allyson would be better off sticking to the 400. She's going to have a tall order to beat Schippers, Elaine Thompson and Tori Bowie in the 200. She would get left out of a medal, if they continue the form they are all in right now. All three of those girls are putting up incredible times to open a season
400 is no lock either with Shauna Miller. -
What's obvious? How stupid you are? Yeah, everyone knows

One can hope morons like you will start getting sued for libel.
