This article is a good example of "news" sources that manipulate any story to fit their pre-established narrative. In this case, the blog in question pretty obvious was anti-title IX long before the current Missouri situation.
The first sentence is a clear tip off that you are going to be reading a subjective opinion piece:
"The purpose of Title IX—the federal statute wreaking havoc on campus free expression and due process—is to ensure equality between male and female students."
An objective news article would never state that Title IX is wreaking havoc on free expression and due process, in the very first sentence no less.
Now, this is a blog post that we are talking about. I didn't look much into the site, but I doubt they are trying to pretend they are a "fair and balanced" news organization.
They did, however, give a misleading version of the current events and try to frame the drama to fit their preconceived opinion of Title IX.
In short, there were some benchwarmers mad at their lack of playing time. They complained about the coach to the AD. Reportedly they complained about more than just playing time, but what exactly is not publicly known. The AD began a formal inquiry which included interviewing everyone on the team. The players who hadn't originally complained to the AD got upset at their teammates for "snitching" and at the AD for what they perceived as unnecessarily hostile interrogations and attack on their coach.
So...this second group, mad at the AD and protective of their coach, went on a counterattack. They wrote a letter critical of the AD, and defending the coach. They claim that the original group of players were only complaining because they didn't get to play. They blamed this on AD because the athletic dept forces the coach to have a very deep roster due to Title IX. Basically explaining that the coach is forced to recruit extra players but still expected to win so can mostly only play the best ones. The reason this is getting more attention is because they threatened a boycott if the AD didn't resign. They have since backed down from this threat and the team is in the midst of a deep post season run. The AD's investigation into the coach is still ongoing but nothing will happen until the season is over.
So, Title IX is one small part of a larger drama but to present the situation as a softball team railing against the statute is total bullocks.
I'm not arguing for or against Title IX, but just pointing out how purposely misleading sources such as this are. And of course people who want one more reason to hate Title IX lap it up like good sheep and post it here. Then most people accept it as news if they even read more than the headline.
Just saying, look for the story from multiple sources before sharing your outrage on the internet.
