I've almost worked through the difficult JD 5/10k plan at the 61 VDOT level. Now I'm not sure what to do next. Going to continue doing races up to 1/2 marathon distance this summer. Started adding some strength and explosive type of training, ie squats, deadlifts etc for power, only 3-6 rep, weighted jump squats, hopping and jumping around etc. Want to increase my max velocity and economy so looking to add more hills and doing some sprint work. Just finished reading Owen Anderson's Running Science book (yes I know people have some negative views on his ideas and coaching credentials, ie what olympic medalists has he coached) and thinking of integrating some of those ideas into next training plan, with more of a emphasis on VO2max training and decreasing my mileage a little. I currently do about a 100k/ week while doing JD's program. My 10k time is between 35-36 and 5k about 17min. I'm also 43 and basically got into running about a year ago has had a serious foot injury from several years ago that prevented me from doing any real running. So not sure if I should start all over with a new plan or just add some quality workouts based on my current fitness level...
