Michael at his District 5a meet reclaims the fastest time in the 800 for high schoolers. Running 1:48.36. This was following his win in the 1600 about an hour before and his win in the 3200 the night before. Came around at about 53 and cruised through to the finish.

Yea. He's pretty fast.
He only won 3 races. He still is sort of lazy.

Of course, if he does not run 1:46.2 this month he should quit running forever.

Thanks for the video link. Kid is insane. Just beautiful form. Such f'n wheels! And then not even dead at the finish. Would have won that 800m in VA in controlled fashion.

Looks like the kid with the white singlet was trying to rabbit, and paid heavily in the final meters.
I keep bracing for a hiccup in Slagowski's progress, but he just looks smoother and stronger in every race. I am a Hunter fan but if he runs against Slago he is going to look like a tumbleweed vs. a mustang.
He just makes it look so easy and can continue at the end. 1:46 is surely on the way in the right race, and mid 3:50s at least.
I don't know how anyone can watch that and think that is all he has. He had so much left in the tank, just went straight through the line eased down comfortably. Solo 1:48.36 looking smooth and effortless.
In a race packed with competition where he is hanging on and actually trying, 1:47 surely.

I love the predictions, I think folks do not quite realize what 1.37 seconds of improvement looks like at this level of 800M running .He is almost running optimal splits already solo at 53/55.
Maybe he does break 1:47. it surely is NOT a guarantee ..and MID 3:50's? What is the definition , or yours of that? You think he is running 3:55 for the mile, when he had broken 4 minutes, barely once?
I love how folks extrapolate 1.4 and 4 second PRs off of stats and video.
You have never competed as a runner, a "Watcher" is all you will ever be. No big deal. Not everyone is cut out for it.

King99, I have seen this kid now break 1:49 twice alone. This performance was apparently part of a night/day triple. I know that you are an East Coast guy and skeptical of others, but he literally continues well past the finish line at the same pace before stopping. He looks incredibly easy here. You know as well as I do that winning solo is worth a lot faster than "chasing," as you always say. And by mid 3:50s, I should really say that I think he will beat Jim Ryun's old high school record of 3:55.xx and, depending on the pace (supposedly, he'll be in the international mile at Pre, which is usually run around 3:52-53, I think), he could well run 3:53. He'd have a better chance in the other race. Recall that in his sub 4 mile, his pacer slowed down a lot in the second lap to 62-63, he then ran a 57 and 59, for a second half of 1:56. That is a big negative split of 2:02-3/1:56. This kid is super talented and watching this latest 800m effort makes it extremely clear to me that he is ready to run some incredible times with competition.
In my early 20's I cut 3 seconds off my 1:52 800m PB in a single race. And this this guy looks a lot more talented than me.
He is running within himself here. Anyone can see it.
I love watching this guy run.

I wish more races did this in HS meets. I like watching HS track meets, but I'd rather watch two heats with 24 guys in the 1600, than sit through four heats with 12 guys each.
