I have a pretty creepy and crappy HS coach. I'll start off with the crappy, then the creepy.
I am from the nova area. Our team races against the likes of Brandon Mcgorty, Drew Hunter, etc. Our coach has a mindset that he won't let us run very much. I think the most we have ever run as a team is 25 mpw, and that was during xc. Most of that was 3 to 4 mile easy runs on the road. We ran a total of 2 workouts during xc, one of which was a tempo for 2 miles. The other was 2x 1 mile at goal pace. My issue is that because the training is so easy, we have a number of runners under perform and they don't really care about running. They do it to stay in shape/bc their parents make them. Another issue with coach: he gets mad at us if we go faster than 7:50-8:00 per mile on the road runs. Absolutely absurd. Point is, he is a crappy coach who doesn't know a thing about running. I think he wrestled in hs and was a manager for the college track team. Clueless.
Second part, he is a total creep. He has all of his athletes phone numbers, and texts them on the regular. He also has 30+ minute conversations over the phone with his top athletes once or twice a week. The worst part is that he will take his athletes out to lunch, some of whom are women, for an hour or two at a time. It is very strange. It is just him and the athlete. He has gone so far as to call his athletes while they are on family vacation to discuss running in the area they are vacationing to. Those conversations are also very long. It's really weird.
Anyways, I'm not really sure what to do about him. He has been around for a long time, and the alumni like him. They claim he saves you for college, which is funny since the only one of them who could run in college got cut freshman year bc he couldn't pass the time trial.
Any advice?
