Concrete or sidewalk. Why not hit the trails more. Just an observation I made over the years
They do run on trails. Problem is, practices start on the track (or in your dorm/team house if you're running mornings as well). These are surrounded by roads. Just getting to the trails could be a several mile run.
lots of teams do mostly trail running, some do almost no trail running

Five minutes or less on foot to trails when I was in D3 college.
