Was Caster Semenya's Final 100m in Doha the Fastest Ever Run in a Woman's 800?

Pierre-Jean Vazel has another tweet where he has American Nicole Teter closing in 13.6 in 2002 to win the DN Galan meet in 1:58.12.

So those are the two fastest closes he knows of.

I really don't understand all the awe about a 13.6 close in a 1:58 race. That's 54.4 pace with a fast running start. They were out in 28 something, without a running start and going twice as far.

No doubt she ran well, but I am not seeing the significance implied.

The other races showing closes of about 14 are in races about 1:55. A 14 second close is 1:52 pace, again with a running start at no turns, so that is not very remarkable either, although a 1:55 is, in sum, amazing. You could make just as much fuss about many of the 100m segments in some of the fastest races run.

Can someone explain why him/her had so many down years. So meds made her slower? Doesn't this confirm he/she has an unfair advantage?

Showed the vid to my fam:

10-year old daughter says "Why is that man running with those women?" later adding "that's not fair."

My wife says "Exactly to whom is this providing a service? What woman is benefiting from allowing a man to run with women?" later adding (at the finish, when folks are shaking hands and Semenya whacks some woman's butt): "I bet they're all thinking "F* you, Mister Man."

It is very hard for a 1:50 half miler to look like they are running all-out in a 1:58 race.

I'm not afraid to stand up to this BS. A man ran 13.6 to close an 800m this is not a woman. WAKE up and stop being afraid to stand up!!! There are plenty of cases of mixed gender people, but it's clear that any male components of anatomy give a distinct physiological advantage. Sure semenyas feelings may be hurt, and the liberals may be butt hurt that their agenda is dubbed ambiguous, but it's for the good of the sport and the people involved in it!! STAND UP!!!

If they removed one of her testes she only runs 14.2.

It is a misconception that this has anything to do with PC.

It is way for IAAF to get faster races and hence more publicity.

I agree it is questionable to say the least.

There is no reason to hate for her gender or be angry at her. But we would not let men run women races for good reasons. someone higher up has to make the decision.

Some additional info regarding the final 100m in women's 800m history.

Unexpectedly, the fastest one in my book was achieved by Nicole Teter in Stockholm 2002. I did the analysis 14 years ago and lost the video material so i can't double check the figures but here it goes per 100m sections

Maria Mutola ran her last 100m in 13.8 to finish 2nd in 1:58.23. This is the fastest last 100m i've found for her, she also ran 13.9 to beat Ana Fidelia Quirot in Berlin 1997 in 1:56.93.

As for Jarmila Kratochvilova, here's what i have:

13.6 - 2:01.99 Canberra WP 1985 (didn't include this is my list one twitter as it is a >2min race)

13.9 - 1:53.28 München 1983

14.2 - 1:54.68 Helsinki WC 1983

14.5 - 1:55.91 Moskva EP 1985

Of course I haven't been able to analysed all the races ever held, and i suspect we might find some sub 14sec from Soviet or Romanian runners in the late '70s or '80s. But faster than 13.6 ???

The fastest last lap i know is 56.91 by Sigrun Wodars in Berlin in 1989 in a 1:58.11 race, she left the pack at the bell and ran this final 400m alone!

It was not a women's 800 . . . Semanya was in it.
