Well Keni Harrison just false-started in the second heat of the shuttle hurdle relays. Good thing they don't DQ anyone in this event because there's only two teams in the race.
It's cold
Kirani James just ran 44.08. World leader, meet record and the #2 time ever run in the month of April. Super impressive given that it's 48 degrees in Des Moines right now.
Wow, Brenda Martinez fell apart on the last lap.
Saw Boris Berian cheering her on, he sat down a couple rows in front of me before the start.
Global warming is here to stay..

Jenny looked great, Martinez bombed on the last lap, Cain so-so. Great run from Yale alum Kate Grace. Wejo will be proud!

I should have mentioned he was second in the 400. Good run by him as well.

NBCSN's coverage has shifted to Drake. Clayton Murphy looked great in taking down Boris Berian to win the 800. Murphy just sat on him until 100 to go, then passed him halfway down the homestretch to take the win. 1:46.71 is a really nice time considering there were winds of around 15mph and it was cool (49 degrees) and wet. They didn't go out quick either -- 52.5 at the bell for the leader (Berian).

Clayton Murphy has just beaten Boris Berian at Drake.
Berian had the lead at 400 (52 high) with Murphy in third. Murphy then move up into second and ran right on the side of Berian from 500 to 750 (maybe 6 inches behind for most of that) before pulling clear to win in 1:46.71.
I'm not sure why Tim Hutchings acted like Murphy's win was a total shock. Murphy is a STUD.
Oh yeah, the weather was awful. IT's 49 degrees and windy and wet (not sure if it's actually raining but the track is drenched).
Murphy was happy. He said post-race to Lewis Johnson his plan was to stay close to Berian on first lap and make sure they weren't going too fast. He said it was windy on backstretch.

OH yeah. They used a waterfall start which is against IAAF rules i believe. Elite 800s are supposed to be run in lanes. I don't know why they jsut didn't have two guys share a lane.
Somebody please tell NBC to wipe the water off the screen......

Also NCAA regulations as well for it to count as an official mark for qualification purposes, aren't I correct in thinking this??
Nice insight from Aries Merritt (interview from yesterday with Lewis Johnson). He said that his replacement kidney is in his abdomen and that his trail leg actually hits it when he leans in to hurdle. He said it's been tough getting used to it but hopes it will go away as the season goes on.
World leader Keni Harrison kept rolling today, winning the 100 hurdles over a strong field.

Murphy is like a better version of Nick Symmonds; he can hang with the leaders when they go out fast while at the same time has great range when it comes to the longer stuff (1500, 3k, 5k, even XC).
Dude makes speed oriented 8'hundo guys like Shaq Walker and now Berian look like sprinter wannabes.
Fingers crossed he doesn't go to OTC when he graduates, it would be gutting to seem him join that graveyard of a middle-distance squad.

From what I heard, Brooks offered him a contract after his summer, and he turned it down wanting to focus on finishing school. So at least his head is on straight.
Murphy is now firmly in Berian's head. With his strength overall, and his tactical ability he might be the favorite to win OT's in one of the strongest U.S. 800 years ever.
It should be a surprise when the in-form indoor world champion who twice ran 1:43 last year loses to a collegian.
The closer v. front-runner dynamic is always a great one in the 800 and it looks like we are seeing it again.
