Lost in a dungeon maze, a man finds himself in a room with 10 boxes on the table, and the table is up against the wall. On the wall behind the table, there is a note that reads:
"Under each of these boxes is either a tool for escaping the maze, or certain death. Choose carefully, for only 3 of the boxes contain a tool for escape."
Each box does in fact abide by the rules above, except for one, which contains nothing underneath it.
Lifting a box is the only way to determine what is under the box, and also guarantees the man will either die, receive the tool for escape, or find nothing in the event he lifts that one particular box. This means that there is no "peaking" or any other weird loopholes. The room is well lit, but that's mostly just so he can see what's going on. He lifts a box, takes the tool, and then uses said tool to escape the maze.
Any attempts at cheating will result in a minotaur barging into the room and killing the man, so don't try to be "cute" and cheat.
No additional tools are available to the man.
Death or escape are his only choices. He can't choose to just "live" in the room for the rest of his life. How does the man successfully escape the maze, and what is the tool that he needs to find under the box? Remember to think laterally, and REALLY think about what each of the words in the riddle means. HINT: THEY MAY BE METAPHORS
