What does everyone think about Amanda Portis (former number one seed?), from Tri-State University, not running in the indoor nationals in the 3000 meters, but choosing to go to Jamaica for spring break?

Um, gee, how does the coach feel?
some of us have to put our hand on the burner to learn
Uh its her life and her talent to use as she chooses not yours. The only waste going on here is your time and your life. Either worry about your own business or go watch 7th Heaven or Dawson's Creek or something. Heck you could even go qualify for indoor nationals yourself shmuck
I have never heard of Amanda Portis or Tri-State University and I don't even know what three states the name refers to, but I'm sure this is a critical issue of earthshattering importance.
Well reality check... I have already qualified... so I am just looking out for the team. I mean reall.. isn't Jamaica always going to be there? You can only run competitively for so many years... so why not use those years to the fullest? Actually your remark makes me wonder if you can even run at all... and if you do run I am thinking that you could possibly run ten minute miles if you are pushed hard enough!
How is that a waste of talent? Has she stopped running?
Do student athletes at other schools that don't participate at indoors also "waste their talent"?
Hey this is my thoughts... QUIT WASTING EVERYONES TIME IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO COMPETE TO YOUR FULLEST!!!! If she doesn't want to run at this meet then why the hell is she on the team.... for 99.9% of collegiate runners would love to just run in nationals and would give anything but the talent is not quite there! Why not use what God has given you to the fullest? If you don't want to try then don't waste everyone's time!!!!!!!
So, how DOES the coach feel?
I can comprehend the mistake you are refering to here about Amanda and I can help. Please state your email address here so I can write you to convince you of that before I give it a go. I do need to know a little more about the situation--but I'd rather ask questions more privately. I am comparing the situation to a person I know who made a similar mistake and it might not fit what you are talking about.
Pardon me, but if she doesn't want to run indoors, why should you care? In all actuallity, the less races the better.
One reason that this country produces so few middle distance/distance stars is that we race the shit out oursleves.
It's not a big deal.
There are a ton of schools that don't even run indoors and they're not wasting shit.
Well, gosh, let's see... Coors Lights at TSU or Coors Lights in Jamaica. Gosh, I'll take Jamaica.
In other words, Velvet, I'd look to your own glass house.
Other than that, I'll second triple nipple - what's the coach saying? Although it isn't really any of your (much less our) business, so I don't blame you for not knowing.
Well idealist, lets just say the athletic department here at TSU is not too pleased and the president of the university is taking away some of her scholarship. Anything else you would like me to inform you of... since I am in involved in this situation.
Sounds like you answered your own question about what others might think of the situation:[quote]velvet_nipple wrote:...lets just say the athletic department here at TSU is not too pleased and the president of the university is taking away some of her scholarship. So, we know what the ath dept thinks. What does the coach think? Why don't you ask her yourself why she's skipping town?
if you already qualified velvet, in what even was it in and what time did you run? im calling your bluff on this one!
Good call... I am voluntarily helping coach the team this year. If I had eligibility left I would have already qualified for the marathon for outdoor season.
What is her reason for going to Jamaca besides getting laid?
No one has heard of you or your school, so get some therapy
for your need to control females. She is a star, and you
are no one. Within your social context it may appear as a
problem for you, but in reality, racing less is the correct
choice.
I think she should enjoy Jamaica to the fullest and, when she gets back, go to a different school.
I've never heard of TCU but it sure isn't doing her any good to run there.
This topic is so lame and meaningless that I couldn't help jumping in.
Did some research and discovered that the chick is basically the only athlete in the program with some talent. Squad size is pretty thin so this girl is the only hope the first year coach has or getting some national exposure for his NAIA program.
As we all know, if you can qualify for your high school state meet you can never improve and still make it to the NAIA meet. This Amanda girl ran 5:19 for the mile and 10:31 for the 3000. Pretty solid running and like I said, she's by far all they have although I did notice a 14 foot pole vaulter on the men's side.
I have no clue what her scholarship situation is but in similar programs she'd be getting a lot of money. You have no idea how much scholarship money is floating around for 5:19 girl milers.
Obviously she isn't much of a team player. And as a coach I wouldn't want my star athlete to be taking off to go party in Jamaica right before the outdoor season. I would be far more concerned about this interruption than missing the mickey mouse indoor nationals.
I'd kick her off just for that. And keep recruiting hard.
