Just kinda running wrote:
I've never really raced anything longer than 1500, and my PR is 3:53. I've gotten to the point where I don't think I can realistically hit any "elite" level times in the 1500-10000, but I do feel like in 2-3 years I could run a sub-1:05 half.
My best long runs have been:
30 miles in 2:57:20
28.81 miles in 3:00:00
25 miles in 2:26:14
Never raced a marathon, but split 2:35 on that 30 miler.
Do I have a shot at running 1:04:59?
Idk your history or training other than this info but if you're a mid-d guy (more speed than strength), you would probably have potential to run low 3:40s if you'd stop doing ridiculous long runs. There are a lot better things you could be doing to help your 1500. A lot of professional marathoners don't even do long runs like that.
If your a distance guy that just moved down and ran a 1500 then I'd say yes, the potential to go sub 65 is definitely there. Make sure you're doing long sections in those long runs at goal pace. Yeah, running 5:50 pace for X amount of miles will make you stronger, but you're really not gonna see big improvements without long sections at race pace.
