been forced to run on a treadmill a few days a week due to weather. i run 7's for normal easy runs off a treadmill. feels like i'm about to be spit off the f***er when i'm on the treadmill at 7's. any insight?

It is strange, the treadmill thing. The thing says that I am running 10 minute miles when I feel like I am running at least 7-8 minute miles. And then this fat gal to my right and gramps to my left is running so much faster and I am like...I know this gal and that gramps cannot run faster than me off the mill.
exactly what i'm talking about. for you guys out there that have experience do you set the treadmill for the same pace on easy days as you would run on the roads?
I consider the pace of treadmills to be similar trail running. The cushioned impact on the machine absorbs part of the kinetic energy. This makes it harder to maintain the same pace (i.e. 7:00 min/mile) on a treadmill or trail vs. the road.
For the record, I keep the incline at 0.0. There's no reason to run uphill for an entire 14 mile run, even if the grade appears negligible.
I think there are a few reasons treadmill running feels so much harder. One is that when running on a track or road, I usually surge here, slow down a little bit there, and on average run a certain pace. On a treadmill, you can't do any of that natural pace shifting at all, you have to run an exact pace or fly off. The other thing is when running fast paces on a treamill, like 5min/mile, I find It's hard to run with the same kind of confidence I have on the track knowing I'll fly off if I fade badly.
