I remember seeing this kid a couple years ago at Beach Invite at Cerritos, as a high schooler, run 14:26 and 3:51 from the front racing collegiates. I knew he'd do big things but didn't expect this so soon

East African heritage, I presume?

What happened to Rhona Auckland? Way back in the field at 17 mins. Ouch.

This is America, a melting pot so it really shouldn't matter. Graduate HS in CA 2014, still 19. -

I ran and lived with Sydney's father in college. Wilhelm is from Tanzania, but Sydney was was born here. Yes he is of East African heritage but Sydney is 100% American.
On a side note, Sydney was named in the hopes that his father would make the 2000 Olympics, but its starting to like he should have been named Rio!
Great job kid! -

Nah son, Tokyo would've been more fitting. Great performance no doubt but I doubt Rio. We'll see soon... -
And Briam Baum runs 13:58!

Don't be such an over-sensitive victim hood culture proponent, just answer the question. It's a fact-based, yes or no question. -

Yes, it is indeed a melting pot as long as legalized immigrants are willing to assimilate. That is not the issue. The issue is that he does, in fact, possess the natural talent that seems to come w/having a genetic association w/East African heritage. Abdi, who didn't start running until he was at a JUCO, immediately comes to mind. Meb too, though he came to America later in life. -
For runners that come thru the US educational system the "imported collegian" factor is a sore point when competing for the limited number of athletic scholarships .
Sorting the imports from the homegrown, be it racially based bias, xenophobia or simple 'homerism' , has an an it impacts me meaning to some..

nice to see him back racing after his EPO ban...Not! good riddance, RD's need to keep this jackass out of their races, he's no doubt on the sauce again already, this is pathetic that he's still allowed to stay in the US.

Yeah Nick Willis. Kevin Sullivan, and Michael Aish took your scholarship.
