I've created a bunch of segments on Strava and I have noticed that a few runners have times that are faster than what their race times suggest they are capable of. When I confronted one of them, they told me nonchalantly "Oh I biked through it so I could be 1st on the leaderboard!" This is sickening behavior!

you can always flag suspicious entries. I feel like a jerk when doing it, but when a KOM clearly was on a bike (turning 4:16 miles for 5 miles for example) I'll flag it. It then disappears from the leaderboard.
I don't think people do it on purpose tho - I think it is just error.
And it seems to me that the problem is receeding - not sure if strava is scrubbing the results themselves or if there is a mass flagging movement.

Your friends think your strava obsession is lame and are doing this to mess with you. Confronting them is only giving them the reaction that they want and they will continue with the behavior as a result (didn't your mom teach you this when you were little).
It would be better if they did this honestly (running), since it would probably get to you more, but I guess you are faster than they are. Good for you.
