I have a fairly standard office chair at work that has a plastic 5-prong base with casters. I wear dress shoes to work that I wish to keep in good condition. A few times per hour I end up hitting / rubbing the chair base with my shoes and it mars them.
Does anyone else have this issue? How do you keep your shoes in good condition? Mine end up with abrasions / nicks / gouges from this and I really am not a fan of replacing decent dress shoes frequently - my wallet really hates this practice...
Wear protective booties while at your desk. Or coat the chair base prongs with foam rubber. Solvable problem, Guy.

This "foam rubber" intrigues me. I'd have to make a frame to extend around the casters if I were to follow this advice. And, thanks for the condescension. Much appreciated!
I replaced my office chair with a stability ball. No more scuffed shoes.
I take off my shoes when at my desk. I keep a pair of slippers nearby in case of visitors.
Guy was just short for "Old D2 Guy". No insult intended. Let us know how it works out if you go the foam rubber route.

Well, the office provides the chair. I don't buy the chairs.
just wear plastic bags over your shoes. I used to work with a guy who did it, people said it was cause of his Aspergers but i know he was really just protecting his shoes
Don't wear expensive shoes to work. I'm sure you can find a nice pair of Cole Haans or other mid-priced shoes. Or have an extra pair at your desk while your sitting.
I think most office chairs have 5 legs, you should try to extend your legs, so the hammies don't tighten up.
FWIW, not a big fan of tassels or wing tips.

I wear boat shoes and lacrosse shorts to work, though. I keep my nice clothes for evenings out and important meetings. If I wore good clothes to the office, they would get ruined.

Well, those are some serious problems mate :). I don't know, try covering those ,,jaws'' with some linen. In my humble opinion https://iqlinens.com/tablecloths have best one out there. Try covering the wheels with some linen. It should also help from screeching unless you use oil for this kind of matters. Or, you could try wearing shoes that are less fragile to work, like leather ones. Another solution would be trying to assume subconscious control over your body and not allow your legs to move without need to do so.
I hope it will be a good acquisition as my budget is limited
