I jumped (ha ha) in a steeple today for fun and had a blast at a college track meet. No competition so I ran an easy tempo for the race and won easy. On my last time over the water, I decided to just go for it and hurdle into the water instead of stepping and pushing off. I obviously didn't get out as far, but felt like I lost less time and was faster coming out the the water. Has anyone done this and what are your thoughts about doing this each lap? Thinking of running another one in two weeks and actually race/run it. Should I avoid stepping on all the barriers, or should I step on the water ones to push out further?
