Slow female runner here. Been running for 3 years, age 17. I won't post any times here but I am just not talented. However, I really enjoy the thrill of racing and improving. PRing is one of my biggest goals. I ran around 35 mpw (40 max) this winter, which is more than last winter (25-30). However, many of these miles were easy or tempo. There was very little speedwork. I expected to continue improving this season just like I did in XC and last season. I have cut 3 seconds off my 1500, but my best 800 time is about 5 seconds off my 800 from last season.
I ran a positive split of 5 seconds in this race, but I kicked hard the last 150 meters. I won my race but didn't feel like I ran as hard as I could.
Is my problem physical or mental? Will it get better as the season progresses? Are there 800-specific workouts that will help me to get back to where I was last season? Or is it all in my head?
