What's the minimum amount of time you can get from the instant you start your stopwatch to when you stop it? I was bored this evening and started doing this just for fun, and after a few tries I got 0.07 seconds. Frustratingly I can't seem to get under about 0.2 after more attempts. (This was with the watch on my wrist, my thumb on the stop button, and my forefinger on the start.)
It's all about technique and hardware. We used to burn time on the bus this way many many years ago (late 80s). With old Timex Ironman watches we could get down to 0.03-0.04 (start & stop were the same front-facing button, so you had to use the same finger). By the end of the year, my button had fallen off from abuse.
Using an Ironman watch, my best was 0.14 s - my thumb must be 100% slow twitch.
Have done 0.01. Still not sure how.

Funny, we used to have "races" with our iron man watches on the bus too. About .14 was what I seem to recall as being the best anybody could do.
It all depends on the hardware of the watch - how far the button has to travel to register.
I can consistently do it in .03 after the watch acquires a satellite signal.

I just got .04, but the real test is can you do 1 second without looking at your watch.
I just did 4 tries and they were .78, 1.34, .70 and 1.07.

In high school the test was always trying to hit one second exactly. Unbelievably entertaining.
Never tried the fastest possible until now, and in about three minutes of practice (and probably 40 or so trials) I gradually went down from PR's of 0.13, 0.10, 0.09, 0.08, to 0.05.
It's kind of cool from a reaction time standpoint that I got consistently better as I practiced, as going into it I really thought I was probably already at my upper limit. And interesting that I could actually tell which trials were fast and which were slow. Even a difference of 0.02 to 0.03 seconds was perceptible.
We spent many a high hour in college trying to see how close we could get to 10.00 seconds without looking at the watch.

Hmmm I think I have read that answer on Letsrun before... oh wait, it is everywhere on here.
Did it all the time back HS. It was rare to see someone go under .1, and .15 was pretty good.
Another one was trying to stop it as close as possible to 5.00 seconds. Anything within .1 was decent. After enough tries most everyone got 5.00 dead on.
I did 10x 0.16 with 60s rest. What could I do in a race?
