When did they say that they wanted to dope? Have they been found guilty of doping? Is it illegal for them to work with Francis? Help me here, because from my point of view the IAAF is simply opening themselves to a law suit.

Ono, you've been watching too much television. The IAAF, the Golden League and the meet promoters do not have any obligations to American sprinters. Timmy and Marion don't have the right to compete in the Golden League. They can be banned.

What lawsuit? European courts don't deal with petty bullshit "They're ruining my multi-million dollar livelihood" suits like the U.S. courts. Team Jones / Montgomery would have to prove collusion. The meet's athlete coordinator's just have to say, "Sorry, we've filled our fields already." or, what likely will happen, "Sorry. We've already spent our appearance fee budget. But, Marion and Tim would like to run for free..."

Expect Marion and Tim to ditch Francis before Golden League gears up.

i mean, they aren't thinking about banning the two for doping - which hasnt been proven - they are because it would decrease the image of the games - which is almost unquestionable.

im inclined to say the logic is strongly against the wonder couple, but of course there are various legal trappings involved im sure. anyone with real legal expertise should shed some light on this

These are invitationals people, and if the organizers don't want to invite Tim and Marion, or me for that matter, thats their prerogative.

And Montgomery and Jones will never sue. Right now their adoring american public have for the most part, no idea that they are training with Charlie Francis or who Charlie Francis is. If they sue it will be all over the front pages and the adoring american public just might not be so adoring anymore.

why ban marion and tim if neither has shown a positive drug test?

what about the thousands of other failed drug tests that somehow slip through the cracks or are "forgotten" about? why are we wasting time and money accusing/assuming tim and marion are using drugs due to their coach? i'm not saying they are innocent, but how about we go after those that have actually proven guilty first!!

If Armstrong started training with a new coach in Canada who had said it is impossible to win without using drugs and was banned from coaching other cyclists in Canada, I would say keep him out of the Tour as well. The company you keep is a strong indication of who you are. Look at Alan Iverson. The guy hangs out with thugs all the time. Not a big surprise that people question what he does with his free time.

I would be interested to hear what Paula Radcliffe would have to say on this matter. Obviously a very strong anti-doping advocate. It would be like if she became best friends with Yegorova and decided that getting coached by the old Chinese women's coach Ma Jungren (spelling?) would be a great call.

I dont think race has as much to do with it as the officials being disapointed in Tim and Marion but i agree that banning them would be premature. Now if you wanted to increase testing then that would be one thing but you cant ban them because they're suspects. Come on Americans whatever happened to innoncent until provent guilty.

Like I said before, these meets are invitiationals. The meet organizers are trying to make a buck. If widely suspected dopers are winning the races and getting a lot of bad press coverage sponsors start to pull out. TV stations drop their coverage. Other athletes refuse to compete. Pretty soon you have no meet.

The organizers are protecting their interests. If I was in their shoes I'd blackball Tim and Marion too. I
