Wow, Mottram musta been on fire!

Why do you purposely ignore the context of his college 5k races? Primarily a miler that ran the 5k in championship races and also ran a 7:54 3k which indicates that he probably wasn't simply a 14:22 5k guy.

Australia has 10k selection trials at zatopek in November... First place is guaranteed spot on the team if they have qualifier, the other two spots are at the discretion of the selectors. So far David McNeil is booked for Rio after his win and qualifier at Payton Jordan last year, with BennySaint the only other qualifier.

In regards to Vic Mitch...

Definitely nothing like OTC going on. Used to train with well respected coach Sean Williams but is now training solo, no one had anything against the group or her as far as I know. Gen Lacaze is a bit of a media darling because of her issues with qualifying with London2012 and good looks (I think she's done some modelling?), so she gets a lot of the press as opposed to Vic. Not too sure what she's fussed about if I'm honest, athletes should focus on giving 110% (which Vic does, admittedly, gutsy runner) and not on whether or not some amateur commentators on a non televised livestream remembered to give them a shout out during a race... But maybe that's just my opinion...

In regards to road walks they have their own separate championships I believe, though I was under the impression we had a 10k road walk on Friday(?) night.

The story is Australia won't be a threat in T&F judging by most results so far.

Gregson just won 1500 in 3:37.76.

This is the most depth Australian 5km running has had in years, this is championship racing my friend. They will go on to race Europe and get qualifiers there. No stress.

Australia will not be a threat in T&F because there is no pathway for 18-22 year olds like the American collegiate system.. Lots of talent squandered and blame put on shoulders of disenfranchised 20 year olds. Plenty of talent and ability, no pathway to success. When you're 20 and faced with the choice of finding a job to pay off the absurd rent we have in this country or trying to knuckle down with your running, most would choose not to be kicked out to the streets. Maybe they're just soft...

If I recall correctly Mitchell was dropped by Nike around the same time she left Williams (no correlation, Williams is with NB) so that may have been something to do with it.

Tiernan was sick as a dog and didn't run much in the weeeks leading up to this race. He didn't run at ncaas do to this. Poor journalism to just say he was " better " in college.

Half the field ran slower than 14:30. That is a low standard.
