On the BBC broadcast of the World Half marathon last week, I heard the commentators Paula R and Steve Cram mention how if Geoffrey Kamworor would be the current athlete most likely to win the "Grand Slam" of distance running - if it existed.
I think we should have a Grand Slam (or, at least, a Triple Crown). It's a genius idea.
The World Half was an amazing event because Farah showed up. If we have a grand slam, then World XC will be a big event again as well.
My question to you is, "What four events do we include in the Grand Slam?"
Does it have to be 4 events in a year or is it 4 over two?
The ultimate distance titles to win are:
World XC
5,000
10,000
Marathon
but that's not 4 events. We need to have different events at different times of the year so what 4 should we have?
World XC, World Half, 10,000 and a marathon? (We could do it in a 2 year cycle with world half and world xc alternating if need be).
Ot would all 4 be impossible to win so we settle for a triple crown?
I think the sport needs this. We hype up these events as "Must compete in" and we all benefit.
What are your 4 Grand Slam and 3 Triple Crown events?
