I must say the Nike Streak XCs are probably the best shoe ever made for the minimalist. iT is sooooo comfortable and fast. Its like sex on your feet. not like i would know what sex is but you know.

Tiger Jayhawk. Good firm ride. Light and flexible. Fit like a glove.

A couple racers I can think of..I really liked the Nike America Eagle...A white/red/and blue racing flat...super light..came out in the early/mid 80's..also liked the

1) Personal favorite: The Nike Eagle (so light, not much tread, the sole was white, Lindsay wore them). These were great for road racing, track workouts and indoor track, not enough tread for XC.

2) close second: Nike Elite (blue with yellow swoosh). I never had these but they were so good that most girl's on my team wore them for all kinds of racing, XC, track, road and indoor. Most of them were told not to wear spikes to save their lower legs.

3) Another great: The Mariah. They just looked cool. They were the Eagle with an air midsole. I would have bought these if I could have afforded more shoes and spikes, mostly to run on the track with them as they were really a marathon-specific racing flat and I ran few races between 25k and marathon.

Brooks PR = not sure about the name, but they were really light (under 5 oz), white with green mark and PR was sewn on the tongue. I bought them in 1994 on sale, so I guess they were made around '93. I still have them.

Nike Marriah- the last model- much better than the previous 2. Lighter , more flexible and softer. Still have them and use 'em.

Nike Vapor V- silver and red... they are light and soft, BUT too wide in the forefoot. Under the foot, they have similar feel to Brooks PR.

Nike Mariah, the white/light blue/pink model...I think that was late 80's early 90's...I miss that shoe...buhhhh...

1. Tiger Marathon: just a rubber sole with some nylon over the top to keep it on your foot - that's all you need

2. EB Brutting Sao Paulo: ultra-light and firm

I picked up a pair of these in a Nike outlet store in Portsmouth, UK a few months ago. I use them for driving in and as a quick slip on! I had a pair of the Sock Trainer at the time and so caught my eye. Can't imagine racing in these now though - just feels like a bit of sponge attached to my foot.

What's my favourite flats? Well any I do a pb in are good! My favourite ones of recent years were Nike Streaks - the orange coloured ones. I use the latest Nike Streak II (green colour) at present but they are little too wide for me to really rave about but hey I did do a 90 second pb over 10 miles in them in Dec...

If you count the spikeless Nike Waffle as a flat then I really like them for fast running on trails and stuff. As they come up narrow they fit me great but I did have to buy a size more than normal and wearing a 14 seems like I my feet have turned into flippers!

1) Nike Mariah, 1988 version, orange midsole.

2) Nike American Eagle, early 1980's.

3) Nike Air Edge, mid-1980's. A bit heavy because of it's PU midsole, but a nice shoe.

4) Nike Spiridon, 1984

tim well done on the shoes but there cn be no excuse ever for going to P*rtsmouth. You are very lucky to have got out alive.

If you were a serious road racer in the late 70's you had a pair of elites. When you showed up at a race I would say most of the hard core racers had them. Now when you show up at a road race people look at you as if your crazy when you put on a pair of flats. I still wear my Mariahs since I bought a bunch of them on closeout about 5 years ago.

I sold a pair of Nike Stings ( orange suede and green nylon 1975-76 ) for $450 about 8 years ago to some west coast company who resold them to Japan.
