Serious discussion. I know there are quite a bit of soccer fans on the board and we have had some good discussions in the past...Would love to hear your opinions on how to fix the team
Is it that the fans have too high of expectations and we just have to accept we are not a soccer powerhouse?
Coaching?
Playing style?
The players?
Personnel decisions?
Youth system?
I'm not so sure that the current manager, Jurgen Klinsmann is the answer, but when you get down to it, he has done no better or no worse than Sampson (okay, okay, take the 98 World Cup disaster out of the equation), Arena or Bradley. Every one of them struggled mightily in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. Heck , people were ready to fire Arena after the Honduras game at RFK in 2001.
The player pool is arguably better under Klinsmann, but maybe that is just a natural developlment? His decisions and lineups he has put on the pitch have left a lot of questions. It's almost as if they are not a cohesive unit. At the same time, the US has NEVER been a cohesive unit. They have always been a bunch of rag-tag, grind it out and hope for a positive result type of team.
