Just saying, guys.
Just saying, guys.
Congrats for what?
The 2 girls that could beat her, beat her. She let Defar run away from her in the last 800. She didn't run bad, she just ran really conservative, she cost herself a silver. My question is, why does she put it on the line when Simpson is in the race? No Simpson, she's just happy being top dog American.
She always runs the same tactic - lurk with the pack and finish as strong as she can. Without dominating speed internationally this gets her near a podium position but not near a win. Today she netted a bronze in a slow-to-moderately paced race and congratulations to her. I do think she could have challenged Defar earlier (who is really not close to what she once was) and possibly gotten the silver, at risk of losing the bronze.
No way she loses the bronze today if she challenged Defar. She was head and shoulders above the rest of that field. She ran more aggressive a week ago then she did today.
best female American middle distance of this generation. Glad she doesn't need the support of the loser running community to succeed.
Why is Jenny Simpson crying and injured? Cuddling with Coburn/?
She done good, she done real good.
She'll get upgraded to silver by year's end.
I actually agree with several of the points here, both positive and negative. Firstly, she clearly would have had silver if she had been bolder with 6 or even 500 to go instead of waiting to move into third just inside 400. Defar was hurting badly and came back to her as was but Shannon was surely running the smart/safe path and ensuring she felt good enough to move away from fourth and not look back before making her own move.
This IS a common tactic of hers in international races. She is 100% about positioning and trying to respond at the latest possible moment. You can argue this is a soft or weak mentality steeped in fear or you can acknowledge that she is a savy racer who makes finals and generally does well. In all reality, many times she is facing women who are on different playing fields (last Summer's WC for instance) and she runs as smart as possible without risking her own "beautiful death."
That's an Alexi Pappas reference if you don't know it.
wish she would lose the old lady lip gloss. Makes her look like a clown
Well reasoned. And it explains how she managed to beat Abbey D by a whopping 2.85 seconds, as well as look really tired at the end of the race, unlike Ryan Hill, who looked barely tired at all.

Yep--the drug culture will get you every time. But explain to me how this Oregon culture leaves Hill, Derrick, Jager, Flanagan, Infeld, etc., unscathed.

The doping and cheating culture in Oregon goes back to Bowerman and the origins of Nike and has progressively become more rampant. AW, sleazy, mary decker, LA, pedophile joepa, barry bonds, flojo, NOP, rupp, radcliffe, mo, tom brady, centro, marion jones, regina, rowbury and so on and so on.
Who?
Yelp, I think she played it too safe as well.
I understand wanting protect to getting a medal, but she would have still gotten no worse than 3rd chasing down Defar.

Yes! This. I agree. I have always said that Shannon see's Jenny as her main competition. And main motivation. As long as she beats Simpson she is content.
Whereas Jenny's competition is the world.

Uh. no. Not even close. Remember Jenny?
She wouldn't have been on the podium if Simpson had been there.
Puts it in perspective.

This is a bold assumption with high probability for foolishness! First of all, the race plays out differently with Jenny in the field so who knows how Shannon responds. Secondly, the two of them are always very close so to just insert Jenny ahead of Shannon has little academic credibility. (I would say the same thing in a race where Jenny runs well.) Lastly, Shannon is very fit right now and was very focused on a medal in Portland so you're insane if you assume she would've just rolled over.

Can't get more "Jenny" egocentric than this.
Do you really believe the garbage coming out of your mouth?
The conclusions that you come to are so far from the truth about Shannon
But A+ to you for trying to give all the credit to Jenny for a race she didn't enter and a medal she didn't win
Hope it makes you feel better
