As he was sitting on them with 300 to go I knew he would have a medal, like a wolf culling the herd!
I was getting a little worried with 400 to go because it looked like he was falling off a bit, but damn, dude came through. USA killing it so far in these championships.
"I'm ready for the Olympics with a medal as my goal." The man is finally confident. Let's do it, Ryan!
I like how he downplayed expectations pre-race. I would not want to play high-stakes poker against him.
One of the best international American races in history. Only Farah missing from that race.

Wait, isn't the knock on Mo is that his comp had been soft the last 4-5 years relative to previous years?
Totally cold blooded.

What about 7:30 man galen rupp? He wasn't there for the same reason Farah wasn't, didn't focus his training on it.
It was great to see Hill run that race, but there has been little doubt over the past many years that Hill can kick with the best in slow race. The question for this summer is can he handle that type of finish in a 5K prelim, and then come back and do the same in the final. Hopefully, but he hasn't proven he can run fast at 5K yet, just that he can kick in slower pace. 3K indoor is his wheelhouse right now. I hope he can become a 13:00 man this summer and run for a medal in the Olympic final. Farah will be back, and Ndiku will be more dangerous at 5K, plus the winner from today and perhaps some other teenagers we've never heard of yet that get on a program. I still think Ben True is a better bet for medal, but we have at least 2 good chances if these 2 stay healthy, assuming rupp goes 10K marathon.
When Rupp runs well, I see a mini-Salazar behind his eyes feverishly at the controls of the Rupp-bot. With Hill, I see a natural killer, an intrinsically-driven assassin (in the best sense) who is getting his due.
He said in an interview at USAs that he felt he was in 7:30 shape in an even-rabbited race, which revealed momentarily the level of self-belief coming through. It will be interesting to see him this summer.
His PB is 13:05 and he's clearly progressed since last summer, so I think this notion that he can't handle an honest 5k is exaggerated at best. I would consider him equivalent to a 13 min man at this point, barring injury this summer. He will never run 12:45 like the Ethiopians, but wasn't the Olympics won in ~13:45 in 2012? This indoors he's had a great close off of a fast and slow pace, so I see him being in great position to compete for a medal outdoors.
That being said, obviously a few guys had bad days today and outdoors is always more competitive. He could easily improve outdoors, yet fall further out of contention.

Do you think that on foreign running forums they trash their own runners for doping suspicion? Makhloufi, El G, Komen, etc?
He can dip under 13 this summer. I don't think we''ll see any Ethiopian
running 12:45 anytime soon.
Great run but Kajelcha is the 'BOSS'
You know Kejelcha ran 12:53 last year and is still a kid. Gebermeskel went 47 a few years ago, Edris went 12:54 in '14. There are several Ethopians that can certainly dip under 12:50 with the right conditions, and i would expect Kejelcha to be at 12:50 at least.

Are you sure they will be running as fast without their drugs? It might take a year or two for them to come up with new replacement ones.:)
Gebremeskel went 12:46 in 2012...speaking of him, where was he this weekend? He has the fastest time in the world this year, yet Alamirew was selected instead of him and he completely bombed the final (unless Gebremeskel just didn't wanna run world indoors, which I'd be surprised by since he has in 2010, 2012, 2014).

That question is confusing to us.

Hill seems a step away from the next level right now. He has been at this indoor 3K level for several years but not sure if he can actually go 7:32 or better yet. If he can do 13:00 and 7:32 than he is a real medal threat in any final slower than 13:05 - 13:10. So far I've never noticed him being a factor in any international or diamond league 5000. If he starts running at the level Rupp or Solinsky have, then he is a medal favorite with his kicking ability. For now he's still a dark horse. Seems like he may be having a breakthrough though. Let's see how he does at PRE.
