I'm getting to the bottom of my stockpile of Ekidens and need to find a similar shoe. Any suggestions? Trackhead?
Been running in Ekidens exclusively for 1 year. (70 mpw avg, 115mpw peak, 1 marathon) I tried NB RC230's but the lower heel height caused achilles soreness.
The Nike Air Streak Spectrum Plus was basically the next generation Ekiden. Not the exact same shoe, mind you, (upper was a bit bigger, for example) but very close.
Of course, those are tough to get as well but you can still find them.
The latest version of the Asics Tiger Paw is serving as a decent replacement for me. It fits similarly, although it has a more flexible arch because it doesn't have a plastic plate. The Spectrum was excellent, but it's almost impossible to find right now.
Average_Joe, do you still post on dyestat? I haven't seen you in a while.

new zoom marathoner is similar, barely heavier (maybe 1 oz heavier) and has a similar "quick" ride to it. don't think you can get them on a cheap sale yet, shoot, i don't even know if they're on the market yet but maybe try a pair on a store treadmill and see what you think.

Not for a long long time. I tried posting in the spike forum there for a few months (because I couldn't find another board anywhere that had a forum on spikes) but I didn't much like the board and I didn't belong there anyway.

what about the zoom streak xc?
Zoom Streak XC is going to be much closer to the Streak Vapor than it is to the Zoom Ekiden or Spectrum. Try the Zoom Marathoner, Air Streak 2, or look to a different manufacturer. Brooks and New Balance make some decent racing flats, to name just two.
absolutely love the streak xc's, they're basically an old streak ekiden (the white with blue flame ones) but with an eldoret upper. great shoe, fits like a spike....but i wouldn't run more that a ten miler in them.
half mary and above i'd stick with the marathoner.
