Now we know why Centro is running so well this year - Salazar's not coaching him!! His dad is!!

I stepped in this year and am also helping coach Matty. My expertise has allowed Matty to run just a little faster than he has before. I believe another guy in Iowa is also helping out. You can never have too many coaches.

This makes sense.

Because "CENTROwitz" is at a high level in four events, he should have at least consultation with four specialist coaches.

This is called a position coach and most multi-event runners employ one or more.

Just like Salazar is coaching Andy Powell's guys and Cheserk/Jenkins. Vin still helps out here and there. There are "advisors" that are coaches.

Makes sense, and dare I say that it speaks well of Salazar, that he welcomes the elder Centro's help.

I hope we are joking. Salazar has coached centro to medals and a 4th place Olympic field with a doped winner. He has also coached him to 3:30 and Farah to 3:28 TWICE! There is maybe no better 1500 coach on the planet right now, with 2 runners running that well consistently. Why would they need another coach?

And BTW, there is no way that Salazar is coaching the Oregon boys. Andy is more than capable, though he may take advice on occasion from Vin and Alberto.

Centro's Dad coached him college also. His dad sent Powell his workouts back then.

His college interviews seem to indicate otherwise. That and the fact that he worked out with Wheating, Acosta, McNamara etc.

This may be true, or have some truth to it, but remember this is coming from a release on the American U athletic site. From my experience a lot of people in the SID office, and especially those writing some of these website releases, lack much basic track knowledge and may be off base with their statement

Centro needs to have a sexual "relationship" with the 800m.

Dude, I agree, it's awesome that Salazar would be such a man to share one of his best athletes with Centro, Sr. If left to his own devices, Salazar tests testo cream on his sons in Nike offices. The more outside advice he can get, the better.

The article is written like Centro sr is the coach. That very well could be because the AU sports info guy doesn't really know the sport that well and it wasn't written right or it could be because Centro sr is the full blown coach.

I think the former is more likely than the latter.

I'll have the guys in Portland ask him if his dad is an advisor or full blown coach.

Salazar is just an incredible coach. I think how he redefined the concept of "tapering".
