Does he underperform in the finals of championships? Yes, obviously. He has the most top marks of any sprinter in history by far. Possibly none of them has been run in a final (maybe one 9.84 in 2009?).
But he handled his defeat well. He said when prompted that the one thing that could have helped was to have the final tomorrow. In other words, two 6.44s took a bit out of his legs. Hard to go easy in a race settled by so little, but still how many have run three sub 6.50 races in such a short time frame?
This shows how difficult it is to perform your best when it is most important. That is a virtue that Ajee' Wilson, Brittney Reese, Matthew Centrowitz, and certainly Trayvon Bromell have shown.
