The LRC crew has had an AirBnB for the last week in Portland. Once Steve Soprano came out this week, the place was a little cramped.
I started looking for another place and on priceline.com found a hotel in downtown Portland for $66 a night. Once booking it, I discovered it was the Team USA hotel (the Marriott). So much for downtown Portland being swarmed with track fans.
Tonight we went to a party hosted by Willamette Valley Track and Field that had Dick Fosbury, Mac Wilkins, and Billy Olson amongst others there. Anyway, I take an Uber back to the hotel and as the door is closing for the elevator and I see a guy in there and think "It can't be." I sprint in the elevator and it is myself and Trayvon Bromell. I congratulate him on his gold medal. Ask him how he has been celebrating. He says he has been spending time with his mom.
I ask him where he is from in Texas (my bad he's from Florida). He says he goes to Baylor. He's just as polite in private as he is in public. He asks me which floor I'm on because I haven't hit my floor and you have to use a key for every floor and he's getting off. He gets off and thanks me for congratulating him. Cool kid.
I thought about asking him to settle the LRC debate as to whether Asafa Powell chocked tonight but decided not to. There is no debate that Trayvon is a clutch performer. Just a random cool story I wanted to share.
And sorry Steve if Sean Ingle's headline is, "Asafa Powell chokes again, as Ugen's star rises at the World Indoor Championships" it confirms Powell chocked tonight.
Trayvon was clutch
