Who would hold the WR in the 600 meters?

    Yeah, I know that Johnny Gray officially holds the WR in the 600, but I'm wondering who you think would hold it if the race were run more often. Would it be a 400m runner stepping up or an 800m runner stepping down?

    Here's the official list of the fastest 600m times ever run:

    1:12.81 Johnny Gray

    1:13.49 Joseph Mutua Mwengi

    1:13.80 Earl Jones

    1:14.15 David Mack

    Johnny Gray had personal bests of 46.3 and 1:42.60. I have to think that Juantorena could have beaten Gray's 600 time considering his personal bests of 44.26 and 1:43.44.

    Also add Mark Everett in there. He had personal bests of 44.59 and 1:43.20.

    Martin McGrady 1:07.6 for 600yds indoors. A legendary mark.

    That time was broken by Mark Everett at the Millrose games a decade ago or so. Interesting to note that McGrady left Lee Evans in his dust in that race.

    It was pretty classic how Everett ran that time on a small track like the one they fit into Madison Square Garden. It just wouldn't have been as special had he broken it on a nice, fast track like the one they have at Arkansas.
