Lagat's time was the fastest-ever indoor 3000m by a 41-year-old, breaking the old record by almost 30 seconds. He now has every single-year record from age 32 to 41 except for 36.

it should only take a little bit for extra-jealousy-boy socalcush to post about the ancient faked a-sample. the boy has no explanation for why no other "failed tests" exist by lagat since that fake test.
Damn that doped German cheating out the doped Kenyan-American.
oh, americans don't dope, right?
If Lagat wasn't retiring after this year, he could probably continue to run sub 8 for 3000 until he's 50
Doubtful, that Lagat can run sub 8 until 50.
His longevity seems mostly due to his low-key approach to training. Low-miles, long periods of time off, etc. He should consider coaching runners who might want to give the Lagat-training approach a try.

I would say it was more his being like a 7:25 guy in his prime.:)
Crazy time... Pretty sure that the NCAA winner tomorrow will go much slower than this 41 year old guy.
48 year old: 10:19.71
I think I got a decent shot at that time. I wonder where I can find an indoor track to run a slow 3k in a couple of years. What type of drug testing is needed?
Meb couldn't beat Rupp, but the Wily Old Nemesis came back one more time.

Damn, I missed that one. Had I known...

yup, had you known...... you might have been able to set a completely meaningless record that literally 100's and 100's and 100's of others probably could have broken had they run an indoor 3000 at that age.
BUT....OTOH (and this is the point, right?) you could have told people that didn't know any better that you set:
an "AMERICAN RECORD*!!!!"
(obviously you could leave off that part that is was a record for 48 y.o.'s and the part about knowing that tons of other runners could have beaten if they had tried. of course)
Lagat will be the only man capable of running what he did at that age. I think his age is starting to get to him and he knows that.

We aren't talking about some lame american record. We are talking WORLD Record. You know my name would be mentioned along with Daniel Komen. Heck I might be able to slice like 20seconds off that time which would make me one of the all time greats.
7:41 in his first race of the season as well. He ran 7:37 last indoors but this does not indicate a drop-off, since it is his first race. That must have been a fun race to watch. Hill had a pacer I guess. Chelimo has improved hugely.

Yup, you'll have the satisfaction of being a world record holder. The other guy will only have the satisfaction of being a butthurt anonymous message board poster. Go for it!
The lance Armstrong of running, its amazing the amounts he can take without getting caught
As I got into the elevator leaving the meet today, some jerk walked in on his phone blabbing about how Lagan is past his prime and just doesn't have it any more. "He must know he is done, he'll never run fast again, he should just give up already."
The guy just got 4th and ran a very fast time. Ridiculous.
This guy had olympic rings on his phone cover. I tried to get his name off of his credentials but he was moving around too much.
He also shoved his way past a woman pushing a baby in a stroller who was at the front of the line for the elevator.
Apparently he though he was more important that the woman with the baby or the rest of us in line. Then when we got to the parking garage, he said stopped his anti Lagat rant just long enough to whine "excuse me this is my stop." I pointed out it was the only stop, we were all getting off the elevator here too...
Ran over.
It seems that the 46 y.o. record is completely open right now. If someone is 46 on this board and can find an indoor race to run the 3000m, the indoor 3000m world record is up for grabs. After that, it seems that you have to wait to be 85 y.o.
