Those tough special endurance workouts are even worse. 500 30 sec 300 both at about 800 pace and other variations of this type of workout are so tough to do without someone to run with.

It is one thing to do a hard tempo alone or even go to the track and put down some hard 1k repeats, but doing 800m special endurance type work alone is really hard.
On top of the sheer raw difficulty of blasting out a workout like you describe solo, there is the weirdness of spending minutes bent over from nearly killing yourself while senior citizens are walking laps on the indoor track at the same time. Not many people literally puke during public hours at my local fieldhouse. 10 minutes of pain, 20 minutes of self-consciousness. But I'm getting over it.
