I'm skeptical how much Rupp even cares about indoor this year. I feel like he is running it just because it is in Portland. Rupp as much as said that in his post marathon interview.

Rupp's career on the track as a serious contender is over and both Alberto and Galen sense this. That is why Galen is going to the marathon to hedge his bets. Now he has an excuse for indoors and then he hopes he can salvage something in the marathon after finishing maybe 6th in the 10,000m.
Rupp's just getting used to the marathon, and is trying to get back to his old training for the 3k, but the training and racing for a marathon/10k double should be different. Personally I think racing the 3k is not good, unless he's just running it hard all the way as a workout, instead of waiting for a sprint, and not investing too much in the outcome. This is a low key indoor meet, and bigger races are coming.
Rupp is an Olympic medalist. A lot of these guys bring something special to the games. Don't count him out in the 10,000. I'm certain that Rupp and Al think he'll medal.
The "down" is Meldonium was listed this year. The "ups" are that telmisartan and liothyronine are still fair game.
This is what I suspect. I think all the focus of Rupp's training is to Olympic T&F trials and beyond. He will rest a couple days before his indoor races. But otherwise he is not training for indoors at all except in so much as it compliments his buildup for the outdoor season.

Remember what Ritz did with Salazar a few months after a marathon. That's right, 12:56, 27:22 in a tactical race at world's, and 60:00 world half bronze.
Honestly, why bother at all with indoors? If Rupp wants an Olympic gold, Rio is his last shot. He's going to compromise his chances for Indoor Worlds?

I never stated that Galen's track career is over, but that he is no longer a contender to medal at the Olympics. Ritz was 26 years old when he ran that 12:56. Galen obviously was a medal contender at age 26 as he got the silver, but now he will be 30 in Rio and no longer able to medal on the track.

It doesn't. It's just that there are too many people who think they have a clue but actually don't. Nor have they ever sniffed the rarified air of the starting line on an Olympic Track for an Olympic final race.
You'll have to realize that many more posters than you might realize who post here have $hit for brains. It's not their fault, nor can I blame them for their thoughts. They were just born that way. Actually we should have pity for them because their brain doesn't function like a normal persons does.

Throughout the last 20-30 years, how many Olympic marathoners have competed in World Indoors in the same season?
The best case scenario for Galen to have a successful summer is that he won't make the team for Indoor Worlds.
And Mo Farah is older than Galen. Nick Willis PRd in his 30s.He may not medal because it is hard to medal and he is not at a higher level than the top5 guys. He has always needed some luck to medal just like everyone other than Farah.

Are you crazy? It's not a low-key indoor meet. It's the US championship with Worlds a week later in his hometown. That's like saying a Duke-UNC basketball game is a low-key regular season game.
The only races that could possibly be bigger for Rupp this year.
1) Olympics
2) Olympic Marathon Trials
3) Olympic Track Trials
4) World Indoors
4) AR Attempt at a DL
5) Pre Classic (maybe but i think it's less important)
And a fall marathon if he did one.

Why would 'some of his contenders likely be banned?" Please explain the logic behind that statement. There is an ongoing USADA investigation of Rupp's training group. I'd say the odds of anyone being banned above him aren't any greater than him being banned.
I do think marathon training can make people faster - but not at 3k less than 4 weeks later.

Do you think the ideal buildup for the Olympics after a hard marathon would include trying to race well at indoor worlds shortly thereafter? If not, do you admit that doing so decreases the chance that he'll win a gold medal?
I'm not saying he can't run well, I'm saying doing this will probably make him run less well.

And, neither started special training under the guidance of Salazar 16 years ago. Rupp has very high mileage on his odometer.
