Here is a preview of the amazing men's 3k at USAs.
It's so loaded there wasn't even space above to mention sub-7:45 guys Andy Bayer and Trevor Dunbar.
Who takes the top two spots?

Rupp, mead, hill. No particular order.
Hill, Jager, Rupp. In that order.
1.hill 2.rupp 3. jager/mead
The US race of the year has been the marathon trials.
An indoor 3k is absolutely nothing.

Anyone who picks jager is out of their mind. Coming off injury and has never really been able to kick with the best.
1. Hill
2. Jager
3. Rupp
4. Jenkins
5. Chelimo
6. Lagat
7. Mead

Maybe a better question is, if you're one of these guys what strategy to you pick to beat Rupp? Sit and kick, hoping he's not sharp enough, or press it early hoping he's not recovered enough?
The Masters runner is the wild card in this deck.
Is Rupp still running the slow heat?
As much as the preview wants us to believe there's been a changing of the guard, no one in the field has consistently beaten either Rupp or Lagat in any event, much less the 3k which is arguably the strongest event for each.
Hill stands the best chance as he's a proven winner in championship caliber US races, albeit with a short pedigree.
Mead and Jenkins, while very fast, are not proven winners at any level, even college. Mead seems to have peaked his indoor season at Milrose in any event.
Jager, while a winner in steeple, lacks the kick to hang with the best in a race without barriers.
Lomong could be a wild card. When he's on, he's got flat out speed equal to anyone absent Lagat.
Top 4 will be Rupp, Hill, Lagat, and Lomong in no particular order.

It's an indoor 3k. I assume it will be tactical and that isn't great for Rupp. Rupp isn't a huge kicker at the 3k level. Yes he's run a mile in 3:50 but he's not a shift gears and kick guy. The good news for Rupp is a lot of these guys are similar - Jager has run a fast 1500 but isn't a big kicker either.
If I'm a competitor with a kick, like HIll, I'd be happy to let it sit and kick against Rupp. He just ran a marathon. Of course, let it go slow.
The race is definitely going to be tactical.
Hill is the obvious pick in my mind. Mead likely to follow. Lagat hasn't raced yet this year that I can think of, so I wouldn't pick him for top 5.
Hill
Mead
Jenkins
Rupp
in that order. most confident with first 3, threw ruppie in there for old time's sake
