"Three Ethiopian runners have been suspended on suspicion of doping amid a string of positive tests among the country’s athletes, track and field officials said on Friday."
The article added that the names of the suspected dopers have not been released but said that one runner, Sintayehu Mergia, identified himself by going on the radio to deny the charges.
Our results database - Tilastapaja.org - lists a 30-year old Ethiopian by the name of Sentayehu Merga Ejigu.
He was a 2:12 guy who improved to 2:09 last year.

That is the brother of Deriba Merga, 2009 Boston Marathon Winner.

JO needs to do an infomercial.
-
Renato needs to remind WADA that EPO doesn't work on Africans.

On a serious note, what is going on? In the last couple of years there are suddenly all these stories / incidents in Ethiopia and Kenya. I am wondering how long these problems have existed. What changed? I would love to see LRC look into this or they can suggest to Epstein that he look into it.

Another one is 2:05 guy Girmay Birhanu:

2:12 American. Great you can compete in London, here is your appearance fee. Oh and post some pics on instagram and we'll give you a few g's.
2:12 Kenyan or Ethiopian. I'm sorry, but our elite athlete roster is full this year, maybe you could you try the Irish potato marathon. We'd be willing to give you free entry if you can make your way to London on your own.
Obviously I'm generalizing, but competition to be elite is much higher in Ethiopia and Kenya. Many are willing to cheat. -

I somewhat agree. But is not the level also higher in Ethiopia and Kenya because more unrestricted doping is going on? Maybe those sub 2h 05 marathon runners would simply not exist without doping. It seems to be a vicious circle. -
AcCording to Canova, the talented runners say no to drugs to run mind-bending times, but the less talented need the drugs just to run like Americans.
That leaves the mystery group of talented runners who are willing to try drugs. They apparently don't exist at all. Well oops Jeptoo did but she had some problem with her leg after she left Renato's discerning eye BUT SHE RAN BEST WHEN CLEAN OF THIS I AM SURE MOSES MOSOP SAEED SHAHEEN IMMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY RIDES A GOLDEN UNICORN. -
Pandora's box being opened. A 2:04:52 guy was also busted from Ethiopia using the same stuff Aregawi was enjoying.
If it's too good to be true it usually is. Hope to find more details and if Canova had any knowledge of any of this. -

^This. Remember: Paula and Haile were clean too! -
Thanks. I should have been clearer about what I was asking. I am skeptical that people just started doping now, so what changed to make use see these doping test results? Did they just start testing for real?

Didn't some IAAF peeps just get busted for corruption/cover ups? Combine that with the basic widespread learning of the ho hum testing in E. Africa, and the pressure to fix this, and it seems like we are seeing some results. It's too bad the Brojos missed all this. They've been so fixated on condemning their own country men who are tested every week that they didn't happen to notice that people were coming out of nowhere running incredible times, with incredible kicks, and looking like it was a walk in the park at the end of the race. -
so we have here 3:56/2:04/2:05/2:09 positives. Aside from the 2:09:57 guy, those are major players. Certainly punctures the myth of Ethiopian superiority. Remember that their best female and male athletes have been beating the Kenyans in major championships up and down the line for two decades.

A lot of people should be getting new prize money. -

And remember, Renato has insisted repeatedly that it wasn't top runners that were doing the doping. This argument is looking less and less likely as time goes on. -

No one gives two s**** whether the Ethiopian is a 2:12 guy or 2:03 guy, drugs or not. No one will remember his name or care who he is. The American will actually generate interest from the public. Races need to stop bringing in Africans, period. -
How can it be the "brother" of Deriba Merga when it's a female?

Americans never dope. Never have either. They are completely clean.
Right.
