Track is just starting at my HS, and my coach is dividing our runners up into 4/8, 8/16, and 16/32 training groups. From what I understand, each group will do two track workouts a week, and the 4/8 group will have one of them be a sprint workout where the other two groups will do more distance-oriented work. I'm debating whether or not I should try training with the 4/8 guys or stick with the 8/16 group. Traditionally I've viewed myself as more of an endurance runner but I'm starting to get the impression that this is only because my speed has never really been developed. I started doing sprint work and weight training this past winter (my old coach never had me do any of that despite my 800m specialization) and have seen huge improvements in speed. I think I'm still new enough to the sport that I don't know exactly what kind of runner I am yet, so is it worth a try?
